VMWare Linux Horizon Client Fails Install On LL 6.0
Posted by: lc6529 - 06-14-2022, 07:39 PM - Forum: Installing Software - Replies (1)

Wiped my laptop clean and installed LL 6.0 to test before upgrading main computer.

All seems to work ok except for the installation of the VMWare Horizon Client which worked before.

I did the usual chmod a+x [bundle file name]

Then sudo ./ [Bundle file name]

I enter the password then get extracting VMWare Installer

I then get the VMWare screen that says Installation Failed.

I tried downloading the latest client from  https://customerconnect.vmware.com/en/do...rPId=87916

But no luck...

Any ideas?

  A few thoughts on 6.0
Posted by: trinidad - 06-14-2022, 01:37 PM - Forum: Suggestions and Feedback - Replies (8)

1) This version is by far the prettiest yet. The default wallpaper is beautiful. I would like an optional version of that wallpaper without the yellow feather, just the gray shadow feather edges. When you run the widget with the background feather logo it's just too much of the yellow feather on the desktop. I think it would look quite nice then with just the widget feather.

2) I would like to see a discussion here by some of the experts on replacing Chrome with MS Edge with all the proper steps concerning updates, dependencies, etc. so that new users would have access as to what to do to remove Chrome completely and use MS Edge or even Edge dev instead without causing issues later on with their system and updates.

3) The same goes for Thunderbird. On the subject of mail it's worth noting that the ncurses installer for system mail did not function correctly in the XFCE terminal in the 5.0 series but I haven't tried it yet on 6.0.

4) I noticed that Thunar uses normal yellow warning stripe about root, but when you open a file with root with mousepad it uses the default Debian pink color for the warning stripe. I'm sure it's just an XFCE oddity someone missed.
5) I'm going to thoroughly use this system as time goes on and look for quirks because I think it is the best one so far.

  Tips for Minimizing Memory USe
Posted by: Alan C - 06-13-2022, 11:03 PM - Forum: On Topic - Replies (3)

With help from user WytWun (thanks again!) I've got LL 5.8 running on my 2016 2 GB RAM Ideapad. I really like it It's not a big deal, but I'm curious if you have tips for lowering memory use so programs open faster. I can look in TaskManager, but I'm not sure what some of the running processes do, so I hesitate to disable them. I'm not doing much with the laptop beyond office apps, web work, and lightweight apps (hello vim!). I'm not printing, using bluetooth, or anything external to the machine other than wifi.

Thanks!

Firefox Snap PM install error on fresh LL 6.0 - Permission denied
Posted by: Alan_Wilts - 06-12-2022, 12:50 PM - Forum: Installing Software - Replies (1)

Hi. Just installed a fresh copy of LL 6.0 on a PC for a friend to use to wean them off Windows -;

Installed LL 6.0 and did one update. Kernel now 5.15.0-37-generic

Went to Package Manager to add Firefox and learnt that Ubuntu based distros are now using Snap for FF. Installed Firefox Snap but failed with:

Code:
Errors were encountered while processing:
/var/cache/apt/archives/firefox_1%3a1snap1-0ubuntu2_amd64.deb
W: Download is performed unsandboxed as root, as file '/root/.synaptic/tmp//tmp_cl'
couldn't be accessed by user '_apt'. -
    pkgAcquire::  Run (13: Permission denied)

E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1)A package failed to install.  Trying to recover: ....

Package Manager is now sitting in the system tray and will not end.

What is the best way forward and how do I get rid of any "loose" ends

Thanks
Alan

  Double Volume Indicator
Posted by: miel_8 - 06-12-2022, 08:25 AM - Forum: Other - Replies (12)

When using volume keys to change the volume, two volume indicators appear.

I know there already was a topic regarding this but the fix (turning off xfce4 volume notifications) completely disabled volume indicators for me.

Lite Tweaks Kernel Remover - Public Notice in 6.0 Release
Posted by: Valtam - 06-12-2022, 04:26 AM - Forum: On Topic - No Replies

Apply this workaround now if you plan to remove kernels in the 6.0 release - https://www.linuxliteos.com/forums/secur...l-remover/
Fix coming hopefully in 6.2 Lite Upgrade. Fix already applied for the 6.2 ISO release.

Copy of solution here:

Code:
sudo apt-mark hold linux-image-unsigned*

pretty sure that package is not needed, but it is causing the trouble.

It's too risky to integrate into Lite Patch. All the experts online advise against it so it will have to wait for 6.2 ISO release. I should be able to include this fix in the 6.2 Lite Upgrade package.

Hi, everyone! Hope you're all having a nice life! Smile

I wanted to bookmark a thread, but I don't see any button/option to do that. I've bookmarked threads in the past, but it's been a while since I last did it and don't remember how or what I need to do. So, could anyone please be so gentle to tell/remind me how I can bookmark threads? Thanks. Smile
