LL 6.0 Installer loads old liveOS from HDD instead of itself |

Very strange behavior: booting the Live LL 6.0 on my Dell Inspiron One 2330 results in ... Ubuntu 11.10 LiveOS booted up, apparently found on /dev/sda2 (main HDD drive). I was not even aware of it still existing there. The PC was bought with Ubuntu 11.10 preinstalled and promptly replaced by dual boot configuration (Windows 8 plus Ubuntu 12.04, then 16.04 and 18.04). In between there was Fedora 27 installed over Ubuntu. All those linuxes were installed from a Live USB stick or DVD and never have shown anything like that. Same with Live-only trias of PopOS, MX21 and a bunch of others.
There is 'iso-scan/filename=${iso_path}' command in 'linux ...' line of grub.cfg which might be responsible although I am no expert on GRUB2 so I am neither sure if it is really that nor how to fix it. I will probably erase that partition completely and retry but still I guess it is sort of a problem with the installer (given that none of a dozen or so Live USB sticks with other OSes presented such a problem)
regards, Michal

Hi
I've been successfully running 4.8 on Asus E203
But can't, as yet, install 6.0 from dvd iso on Asus BR1100F
Works live.
New laptop with windows 10 pre-installed - windows has never been opened.
uefi - realtek pxe ipv4
Erase partitions and install Linux
It takes 20 minutes to get to install now:
Partition #1 esp
Partition #2 ext4
then 'where are you?', then, 'who are you?'
stops here:
'creating ext4 file system partition #2'
ntpd 2039 error resolving pool temporary failure in name resolution
dma read NO_PASID fault address fault reason 0x06 pte read access is not set
source id 7541 was not found when attempting to remove it.
Thoughts?

LL 6.0 installation failed on a dual-boot Acer 5745G with Windows 10 and LL 5.8 |

Hello,
Today I tried to install the new Linux Lite 6.0 over the existing LL 5.8 disk partition and I had to cancel the installation after an error message.
I have an ACER Aspire 5745G with CPU i5-410M, GPU GT420M and 8GB RAM from about 2009/2010. It has BIOS version 1.19. I have been happily dual booting Windows 10 and Linux Lite 5.4-5.8 for more than a year. Windows 10 is installed on /dev/sda, which has several ntfs partitions. LL 5.8 is installed on /dev/sdb2 as an ext 4 partition. And /dev/sdb1 is a ntfs data partition.
I think that the LL boot loader is saved on \dev\sda during the LL 5.4 installation.
I have followed the Linux Lite Help Manual during the LL 6.0 installation from an USB created with Rufus.
1. I chose “Something else” for “Installation type”
2. Clicked “Change…” for /dev/sdb2 and selected Ext4, Format, and “/ “ for Mount point.
3. Assigned mount points for the ntfs data partitions /dev/sdb1 and /dev/sda2
4. Chose again the /dev/sda as “Device for boot loader installation”
5. Clicked “Install Now” button.
Then the message “No EFI System Partition was found. This system is likely not be able to boot successfully, and the installation process may fail. Please go back and add an EFI system Partition, or continue at your own risk” appeared on the screen.
I doubt my laptop with BIOS 1.19 needs EFI Partition, and I don’t like to ignore the installation process warnings, so I cancelled the installation.
Please, can somebody advise me, how I should install LL 6.0 in my case?
Many thanks!

New Lite Patch released. Fix for those with command line update warning:
Code: W: https://linux.teamviewer.com/deb/dists/stable/InRelease: Key is stored in legacy trusted.gpg keyring (/etc/apt/trusted.gpg), see the DEPRECATION section in apt-key( for details.
Error is safe to ignore and does not affect updates, but may cause confusion with some users.
Install Updates to patch.

I've tried installing via downloading the `.deb` and also via adding the `multiverse`? PPA and now neither works.
Adding the `multiverse` PPA has given me a ton of warnings on `apt-get update` now:
[pre]W: Skipping acquire of configured file 'multiverse/binary-amd64/Packages' as repository 'http://archive.canonical.com/ubuntu jammy InRelease' doesn't have the component 'multiverse' (component misspelt in sources.list?)
W: Skipping acquire of configured file 'multiverse/binary-i386/Packages' as repository 'http://archive.canonical.com/ubuntu jammy InRelease' doesn't have the component 'multiverse' (component misspelt in sources.list?)
W: Skipping acquire of configured file 'multiverse/i18n/Translation-en_US' as repository 'http://archive.canonical.com/ubuntu jammy InRelease' doesn't have the component 'multiverse' (component misspelt in sources.list?)
W: Skipping acquire of configured file 'multiverse/i18n/Translation-en' as repository 'http://archive.canonical.com/ubuntu jammy InRelease' doesn't have the component 'multiverse' (component misspelt in sources.list?)
W: Skipping acquire of configured file 'multiverse/cnf/Commands-amd64' as repository 'http://archive.canonical.com/ubuntu jammy InRelease' doesn't have the component 'multiverse' (component misspelt in sources.list?)[/pre]
The `.deb` fails to install and the `Package Install` window doesn't support copy/pasting. But if I run `steam` via the terminal I get:
[pre]Package libegl1:i386 needs to be installed
Package libgbm1:i386 needs to be installed
Package libgl1-mesa-dri:i386 needs to be installed
Package libgl1:i386 needs to be installed
Package steam-libs-amd64:amd64 needs to be installed
Package steam-libs-i386:i386 needs to be installed
Package xdg-desktop-portal needs to be installed
Package xdg-desktop-portal-gtk needs to be installed[/pre]
And finally errors with:
[pre]steam.sh[9574]: Error: You are missing the following 32-bit libraries, and Steam may not run:
libGL.so.1
libdrm.so.2
libdrm.so.2
libdrm.so.2[/pre]
EDIT1: I followed the guide at https://techpiezo.com/linux/install-stea...ntu-22-04/ and installed a ton of stuff via [pre]sudo apt install libgl1:i386[/pre] and now steam launches but it still complains about missing packages. The missing packages now are:
[pre]Package libegl1:i386 needs to be installed
Package libgbm1:i386 needs to be installed
Package steam-libs-amd64:amd64 needs to be installed
Package steam-libs-i386:i386 needs to be installed
Package xdg-desktop-portal needs to be installed
Package xdg-desktop-portal-gtk needs to be installed[/pre]

there was an error during the CUPS operation server error internal error |

There is another post on the same topic. The prompt on that page suggested a new thread as the old one has gone 120 days with no comment.
I am trying to connect LL 5.8 to an HP Deskjet 4155e as a wireless network printer. I have downloaded the HP software. I have tried the installation instructions in the manual. I have connected the printer to my laptop via USB. Regardless of the method I attempt, the answer is always <there was an error during the CUPS operation server error internal error>.
Printer setup shows that is sees the printer. 5 attempts at printing a test page have resulted in document being held.
How can I accomplish this task?
FWIW, Linux in general has shown me that I am truly a semi-technophobe.
I did not expect this issue. I have been using Ubuntu MATE for 3 years and it recognized this printer with no problem.
I have really enjoyed trying Linux Lite again - second time around. I would like to use it as my primary OS. I need to be able to print.

Welcome message in bashrc |

Hello,
I recently had an issue with a program and the bash welcome message.
With a VScode extension which configure things by running a bash command and fetching the first few lines. This extension didn't work for me until I commented out the bashrc welcome message.
Maybe the extension is using the wrong method.
But I wanted to know if there were alternatives to display the welcome message? How does Ubuntu for example? Is there a conventional argument to indicate whether or not to display the message?
Best regards,
Romain.
