Hi, is there any way to install Mint-updater in Lite-6.00? There is a tutorial-post about it in here, it worked great in 5.6-8.
Thank you!

  LL6.0 Installation Problem
Posted by: Larry Stehno - 06-06-2022, 10:59 PM - Forum: Installing Linux Lite - Replies (4)

I am trying to install LL6.0 on a Dell XPS M1330 Dual Core 64 bit notebook from a Rufus generated flash drive.  The install hangs on the Updates & Other Software page.  I had LL5.8 on this notebook for the last several months.  I tried the install with both boxes checked and with both boxes unchecked with the same result.  Please help.

Nvidia card GeForce 6150SE nForce 430 FAILS
Posted by: BewilderedBob - 06-06-2022, 04:13 PM - Forum: Video Cards - Replies (10)

Is there any help for this known bug ??  I'm running a venerable HP desktop that previously ran Win 10. But now running Lite 6.0 there are occasional screen freezes which require reboot. The resolution was reduced from 1920,1200 to 1600,1200 which seemed to help BRIEFLY but the bug persists. Any suggestions will be appreciated. Thanx.

Lite 6.0 - Right click on Desktop - Task Manager not opening
Posted by: ZaXXoN - 06-06-2022, 02:51 PM - Forum: Security & Bug Fixes - Replies (2)

Hello,

First, thanks for Linux Lite 6.0. The new release is very nice, as always.

I think I've found a little glitch.

When I right-click on the desktop background, I can select "Task Manager" in the context menu.
When I do so, there is no window opening (nothing happens).

I've seen that Lite 6.0 has replaced "Task Manager" by "System Monitoring Center"

If I run "sudo apt install xfce4-taskmanager", then the "old" task manager is installed.

After than, the menu entry opens the "old" task manager correctly.

So, either one package is missing or the menu entry should be changed to point to "System Monitoring Center".

Just my 2 cents ;-)

Considering Linux Lite as a lightweight distro
Posted by: Rosika - 06-05-2022, 01:23 PM - Forum: Suggestions and Feedback - Replies (3)

Hi all,  :wave

I am new to Linux Lite. To be exact: I´m not yet a user but am thinking about possibly switching over.
Up and until now I´ve been using Lubuntu as I´m in need of a (very) lightweight distro. My main PC is a Lenovo H520e with 4 GB of RAM and an "Intel i3-3240T (4) @ 2.900GHz" processor.

I´ve been looking around on the net for infos for quite a while and have encountered very positive feedback regarding Lite up till now.

The reason I´m looking for an alternative to Lubuntu is the fact that Lubuntu has to be upgraded (alternative: fresh/clean install) every 2 years as it´s supported for 3 years (one year overlap).

If I undesrtand it correctly Lite receives updates for 5 years, which (taking one year of overlap into account) means I´d have to do a fresh install only every 4 years.  Wink

My first question would be: am I right in making this assumption?

My 2nd question:

Taking a look at a review of Lite on  https://linuxnetmag.com/linux-lite-vs-lubuntu/ I found the following sentence:

Quote:Possible Drawbacks

Working with local files on Linux Lite can be a bit messy. For instance, HTML files may get executed as if they were
shell scripts rather than opening on the Firefox browser.

I guess that´s the only "negative" statement I found on the respective site.

Can anybody tell me what that might be all about? I´m not sure I completely understand what the author wanted to say.

Thanks a lot for your help in advance.  Smile

Many greetings from Rosika

MX Linux 21 vs Linux Lite 6.0: My thougts so far
Posted by: Ralph Bromley - 06-04-2022, 06:50 PM - Forum: Suggestions and Feedback - Replies (3)

So recently I replaced MX Linux 21 with Linux Lite on my aging 2013 era laptop and I have some thoughts I wish to share.
Note this is not really "what one is better" thread as both Linux flavors have their pros and cons but still I think comparing the two is more than fair as both have the same goal in mind: being overall user-friendly for Linux newcomers and lightweight for older machines.
With that in mind here are my thoughts on Linux lite so far:

The Good:
Overall, I feel Linux lite is a bit faster and smoother than MX linux 21 on this machine, I have had some snares on MX Linux 21 making it feel a bit sluggish and unresponsive.
I installed both on a SSD with BTRFS as the main file system with ext4 for my /home partition on a hard drive with swap alongside it (I have a caddy that converted a DVD drive into a hard drive bay)
Now it's not faster by much but on this ol gal I will take every advantage I can, the fact that it runs so well means Linux Lite is likely to stay for the long haul or at least until the next version of MX.

The Bad:
The update indicator sucks in Linux lite, It's always there and never goes away.
Plus the indicator does nothing, why can't I install updates via the indicator? After getting used to getting updates via the indicator icon, this feels so archaic and out of place.
Plus it doesn't hide itself, I used so many flavors of Linux that change the icon of the update notifier, so I know what to expect... but here?
Nope.
I used MX, Mint, even arch using pamac notifications, this indicator is next to useless.

The Ugly:
The way I have to install Firefox, honestly I know why Linux lite ditched Firefox thanks to it now being a snap, but it's in a PPA now, I think Linux lite should enable the PPA by default in the next revision.
I know this was beyond Linux lite's control but still it annoys the crap out of me, I hope there is a better way to do it in the future without so much hoop jumping.

Anyhow, with that said Linux lite so far seems to be a good distro for this machine, I am still having a few issues but will bring those up later when I have the time.
My goal was to evaluate first, then do problem-solving later.

  6.0 install glitch
Posted by: BewilderedBob - 06-04-2022, 02:32 PM - Forum: Installing Linux Lite - Replies (2)

I'm am a recovering Windows user trying to install 6.0 from DVD. The install appears to be working by taking the "plain vanilla" options (delete all existing partitions and create only one) avail except for GRUB. Apparently GRUB does not install properly.  What am I doing wrong ?  Thanx.

Hi, everyone! Hope you're all having a nice life! Smile

I've been having this all day every time I visit the forum:

[Image: Screenshot-2022-06-03-at-20-25-23-Database-Error.png]

It happens right after I hit the Post button in a thread, even tho my post/comment does get posted. Not sure whether it is just a temporary thing, but I thought of reporting that. Has anyone else had this kind of issue?
