Install on Toshiba Satellite C855D-S5105? |

I'm preparing for a Linux Lite install on an old Toshiba Satellite C855D-S5105 laptop. This device started out with a Windows 8 several years ago.
The original specs:
• AMD Dual-Core E-300 Accelerated Processor with AMD Radeon HD 6310 Graphics 1.3 GHz, 1MB Cache
• AMD A68M Chipset
• 4GB DDR3 1066MHz RAM*
• 320GB (5400 RPM) Serial ATA hard disk drive*
*The HD was replaced with a 250GB drive and the RAM is now 8GB.
Does this look decent for a LL install? Any thoughts on other things I should keep in mind before I install?
Thanks
Joe

Screen dims automatically when unplugged in my Dell laptop |

Hello! I have a Dell Inspiron 15 3552, am using the latest version of Linux Lite (Linux Lite 5.8), and when I unplug the power cable, the screen automatically dims. When there's activity on the screen (mouse moving), it seems to get a lil brighter but it is still dim, and I can't change the brightness through the fn keys when unplugged either, only when plugged.
I have googled and found many other people with this issue in other distros but for this one.
I tried the power settings, tried to disable everything I could (make it behave the same plugged/unplugged) but nothing changes this there.
I tried the power management in bios, no configuration that helps me there either.
I suspect that maybe there's something I could do in the terminal that might solve this issue, but I simply couldn't find anything that has worked for this OS.
In case it's helpful to clarify this, I'm a newbie when it comes to linux distros.

After update - screen fonts and colors not complete |

After a Linux Lite update in the past week, or so, all the screen fonts and colors do not render properly. For example, when I bring up Gmail in the browser the red color in the middle of the big "M" does not show. And the fonts on the desktop and screen have strange distortions on some letters. Screenshot attached.
I tried switching the font from Roboto regular to Sans regular, but that does not help. Thanks for any clues.

Installing Clam TK; is it the full virus program? |

Hi, I'm thinking of installing the Clam TK version of Clam AV antivirus on my PC. I don't know whether the full Clam package is installed on the PC if I install ClamTK from the Synaptic Package Manager. I'm looking for an easy to use GUI version of Clam as I don't need detailed and complex control over AV software using a CLI. To be able to scan individual files, folders or do a system scan on demand will be fine. Information on the general internet is unclear and sometimes conflicting.
Will Clam check for malware on Windows .exe files?
Please advise on this.

Here is something off topic, but related to Linux Lite.
I just joined the forum today. I noticed that one of the developers - Sergey Murzin - is in Ukraine.
How is Sergey and is he safe?
Thanks.

Just signed up and looking forward to installing and using Linux Lite. Currently I'm running Linux Mint on an older Toshiba laptop (Satellite C855D). That will be the same machine I'll run Linux Lite. I really want to make a change to something a little faster and simpler. I'll probably make the switch in May (2022).
Hello to users and developers from around the world. I'm retired and living in North Central Arkansas in the foothills of the Ozark Mountains. :wave

Python3 is installed - but cannot be started |

Hello,
I cannot start Python3. The program is not displayed in the main menu. But it is installed for sure.
Under /usr/share/applications/ I can find Python among other programs. If I then double click on the Python icon nothing happens - in contrast to other programs displayed there.
Unfortunately I had these problems also a long time ago with the program R. Also here I had found no menu entry. However, a folder was created here and I can - if I click through the folders to the "bin" file, then start the program and it runs.
Does anyone have any idea how I can get Python running?

Python3 ist installiert - lässt sich aber nicht starten |

Hallo zusammen,
