top right corner tabs are gone (_ square and x)
#1
After the last update my Linux Lite has the following bug:

When opening a new tab, those icons in the upper right corner (_ square and x) to minimize, maximize and close the tab do not appear.

Only on Google Chrome does it appear, but even then they appear but don't work.

I can't minimize or close the tabs, I can only close them with the keyboard commands shift + ctrl + q

See an image of what it looks like:

Have you checked the layout in Window Manager
Click 'Menu' and begin typing 'Window Manager' into the search box
When you see 'Window Manager' offered as a selection, click on it
In the window that opens check under the 'Button Layout' section on the right hand side.
If the missing buttons are in the 'Hidden' section click and drag them onto the 'Active' pictogram.

If the buttons are already active we need to dig a bit deeper into how an update caused this on your system.

Can you recall the date of the update that triggered this ?

If you routinely save the update/upgrade logs, review the one that triggered the issue and report back what was updated.
If you don't save the logs report back and we can try to extract the information about the update from the system logs.

Do you have System Restore Utility (Timeshift) and Backups (dejadup) snapshots from before the problem ?

I updated through the terminal, I don't remember exactly the day but I remember that I ran the command sudo apt update and sudo apt upgrade, if I'm not mistaken it gave an error when updating the video card

A geforce mx110 gives nvidia, suitable for notebooks

As for trying to open the manager window, I can't do it, when searching in the search bar and clicking to open nothing happens

I'm a new Linux user and my native language is not English, so I apologize for any technical or language mistakes

I remembered that I also tried to install emudeck on the same day now I don't remember if before or after using this tutorial:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z_gcq6mL...=i12bretro

But I couldn't install it because it gave me an error too

After that, the reported problem happened and I couldn't solve it anymore.

Hope you are not put off using Linux.  If you are using a new system in a second language there's no need to apologise.
Please ask for clarification if you don't understand.

If 'Window Manager' appears in the results window but nothing happens when you click on it then it suggests something else is wrong.

There are other ways of opening 'Window Manager' - for example
If you can open a terminal (press Ctrl, Alt and T together) then typing this command followed by enter should do it.
Code:
xfwm4-settings
If that works, it will open the 'Window Manager' and you can check under the 'Button Layout' section on the right hand side.
If the missing buttons are in the 'Hidden' section click and drag them onto the 'Active' pictogram.

But, if basic things like buttons being where they should be and starting applications like Window Manager with a click are not working properly, it may be quicker to step back.
Do you have System Restore Utility (Timeshift) and Backups (dejadup) snapshots from before the problems started ?
Would you be prepared to wipe the system and start again ?

the following error appears: These settings cannot work with your current window manager (unknown)

I think I'm going to reinstall Linux Lite and learn how to make backups so I don't have to install everything from scratch again, that's a lesson LOL

Thank you very much for your support, every day I learn more about the OS

OK, I think that confirms that it will be better use of your time to re-install than try to sort it out over a forum.

Use backups, save update logs and select additional applications with care.

Safe and reliable sources for applications are Lite Software (first) and Package Manager.
Using PPAs carries more risk, but can be researched.
Installing software by other methods means increased risk.

I don't use game emulation, but it looks like Emudeck will try to install zenity.
Zenity is deliberately held back (not updated) in Linux Lite 7.0
So it may have been that install which broke your system.  Be sure to back up if you try to install emudeck again.

It is true, Zenity is held back, but there is a version that works. Lite Apps, use Zenity and they work in LL 7.0.
If the emulator triggers some version compatibility errors, this should rise at least a warning message. Also, this should break the installation process, since the package is held, thus unavailable.
This makes me think that the emulator is unsafe to install, due to programming issues.
A good programming philosophy, is to check thoroughly all kind of backwards compatibility possible issues and correct them before releasing the version.
I do use PPAs, but I usually check the latest commits. This allows me to figure out if any kind of issue related to old packages might show up, in case the software is too old.

If this is the software,
https://github.com/dragoonDorise/EmuDeck
then it looks like it is actively maintained.
The problem is that this is an install manager for Steam.
This issue should be addressed to the developer and the Steam development team.
If the installer breaks the OS configuration, which seems to happen based on the available info, then people involved in the development process should be notified.
Further more, in the manual, there should be clear instructions regarding each DE and the required WM settings.

Is there a section "Known Issues" in the manuals (EmuDeck and Steam)?
Are there clear instructions regarding specific WM settings?

As far as I know, all software manuals have a section "Minimum requirements" and a "Settings" one.
In my practice, I never install a software based on what it says it does, except the case I'm ready to waste some (big?) time backing up and restoring, in case of system failure.
Although I use low-level backups and the restore process goes fast enough, it still takes time and it's annoying.
Even so, I search for reviews and video tutorials and if I can get a fair idea on what am I supposed to face in the "worst scenario" case, I proceed; else, I postpone the installation and search for more info. That proved to be a good practice, over the years.

Best regards, șerban.
