Hello from Indiana
#1
Hi, all.  I'm a relative Linux noob from Indiana.  I tried a version of Ubuntu a while back and couldn't get the hang of it so I reverted to Win7.  Figured I'd try Linux again with Linux Lite.  Got it installed and already having problems (I set the taskbar/panel to autohide and it won't, even after a reboot).  Hellova thing to be frustrated right out of the box.  Anyway, I'll give this a shot.

Howdy and Welcome. I md5sum all my linux iso downloads. It stops things like frustration for me.

Hi Monkeyman,

Welcome to LL. Have you run a system update (menu > all > install updates) since installation? Additionally, though it shouldn't be a requirement for hiding a panel, have you checked for additional video drivers (menu > all > install drivers)?

Did both then rebooted.  Nothing.  Since I had a bad experience with Linux the last time (my first time), any issues I can't quickly resolve this time around will probably sour me on Linux completely.  Last time was Ubuntu 12.04LTS on a new SSD.  This time is LL 2.0 (obviously) on a new HDD.  Because of this, any help would be greatly appreciated.  I chose LL this time around as I wasn't very comfortable with the terminal commands.  (In the words of my brother, Forrest..."I'm not a smart man...".)  Before I spend hours configuring this the way I want and manually adding all of my Firefox bookmarks (I wish there was something for Linux similar to Mozbackup in Windows), tweaking stuff, etc, I want to make sure there aren't any glitches.

Thanks again for any help ya'll can give me.

Can you please post a screenshot of Panel Preferences, the place you originally set the auto-hide settings.

Sure.  Sorry if the pic is HUGE.  The screenshot captured both monitors (as it should, I'm sure) and I can't figure out how to edit it with GIMP.  (Nice to see a free Photoshop, though.)

After a couple reboots, the auto hide seems to work now.  Now, I have another couple questions.  First, whenever I open a webpage, email, folder, etc, it shows up on the taskbar (no problem, there).  But...it shows it twice, once in the middle and once on the right side.  That's taking up a lot of space.  Is there something I forgot to check to only make those show up once?  Second, when I install a program via Wine, where do I find it after I close the program so I can reopen it?

Thanks, again.

EDIT:  Looks like the auto hide feature on the taskbar is still jacked up.  It works when I reboot for anywhere from a few seconds to a few minutes then stops working again.  I'm about done with Linux.  Windows has issues but I've never had as many issues as I'm having with this straight out of the box.
