I have recently installed Linux Lite and since doing so my laptop is crashing and I cannot print anything because my printer is not being recognised by Linux Lite.

Hello!
Welcome to Linux Lite.
Have you tried using any other Linux distros besides Linux Lite? If so, did you get similar results?
In order for anyone here to be able to help you, we're going to need more details about what kind of hardware and printer you're running.
Go to Menu > Create System Report. Run THAT, and post the output here. We'll see what we can do for you from there...

Hi Rob. Thanks for your response. I have done the report and await your advisement.
Cheers

Think, as Rob said, we need more info. Looked at your info report -- don't see anything that jumps out as a trouble causer. Did brief search on your laptop model and didn't see many serious issues with it either.
Can you describe the problem a bit more? How often does it crash? When does it crash? (Immediately, or after using laptop for a while?) Does the crashing coincide with using any particular program(s)? Are there any warnings, error messages, etc.?
How new is your installation of Linux Lite? If very recent, did you check to make sure the md5sum for the downloaded ISO file matched the one listed on the download page? Maybe you had a corrupted ISO file. Or, maybe the DVD was a bad burn. If we can't figure out what is causing problem, you might want to burn another DVD after confirming the ISO's md5sum and re-install.
What is the printer model you are trying to get working? Saw a reference in report to "Brother", so I'm guessing it is a Brother printer. Did you check their site for drivers and instructions on installing them? http://support.brother.com/g/b/index.aspx
Hi. Thanks for your response. The crashing is regular ( every day) and it seems to be when I am looking at sites such as youtube, Trademe etc. I purchased linux lite on a CD from Jerry Benzecon and installed it about 2 weeks ago. My printer is a brother DCP-J125. My opinion of Linux Lite is not very favourable to say the least.

By 'crashing' do you mean the pc is shutting down or programs suddenly stopping? Is this a Dell 820 laptop?
Brother printer - you require a driver for this, as you would on any linux operating system or early Windows OS. The link for the driver is here - http://support.brother.com/g/b/downloadl...all&os=128
If you're not happy with the operating system, let me know and I'll give you a full refund.

Whether or not you end up staying with LL, you've got my curiosity going. Would like to try getting to the bottom of your problem if you don't mind continuing on with posts.
As Valtam asked, is the computer itself crashing (suddenly powering off) or are certain programs just locking up? Sounds like a web browser problem from what you've stated so far.
* What browser are you using -- Firefox, Chrome, etc.?
* Does it only happen when on sites that have a lot of flash content?
* List any browser addons that you may have installed.
* Do any other programs cause "crashing" or lock-up problems?
* If yes, is the web browser running at the same time? What happens if no web browser being used?
* Do you experience any problems when first booting up into LL? If so, please describe.
* Printer probably won't be a problem once you've got the right driver installed - so not going to get into that for right now.
If problem is "lock-ups" as opposed to the computer actually crashing and turning off, then you should be able to kill the specific program that is locked up without having to hard shutdown the computer.
Try opening a terminal through the Menu, or by hitting CTRL+ALT+DEL.
* Assuming you want to kill the frozen Firefox browser, enter the following command in terminal:
* Substitute correct name of program you need to kill in place of firefox if example doesn't apply.
* Run command a second time if doesn't work initially.
* If still doesn't kill firefox, run it again but begin command with "sudo" and enter your password when asked:
Code: sudo killall firefox
Doing the above should get rid of the locked up application without you having to hard shutdown the computer (which can create other problems).
Will wait to hear your feedback before guessing at anything.
