How did you find out about Linux Lite?

Had been using PuupyLinux on a USB stick for resolving computer problems and testing old laptops , also online banking security.
Had tried Puppy full install but limited because of PET sfs requirements. Came across LL article in business press ( April 2014- lost reference ) that suggested LL 1.06 was a simple changeover option for XP . Author gave glowing report. Had tried Mint but too resource hungry for older spec laptops. Convertee to LL ever since. Feel that there is a real opportunity to convert business users ( road warriors) to to LL on their laptops for security reasons !! encrypting HDD, anti virus, WIFI security etc. Also the Silver Surfers with older hardware and limited budgets.

I always have partitions to test distro's so I am able to choose the best free software for day to day use. http://distrowatch.com/
LL2 was better in ways than Xubuntu14.04 and Mint 17. (And I like this forum.) LL2 reminds me of when I had WattOS in this pc some time ago, but I like Xfce better than barebone Lxde and/or tiny better than MATE which is also slower. But let's be honest... very nice to use. And yes, my wife uses Puppy on an old Acer instead of Windows XP now.. I have tried it from time to time, but it is not enough for me. But unbelievebly good for the room it takes. And safe on disk or pendrive. (LL has very little bugs. That was certainly a reason too. For instance the very good Xubuntu 12.04, which I still have on the machine, had for a year all kinds of bugs. With continued updating that dissappeared. ) I keep a special place in the heart for PCLinuxOS or PCLOS (now the MATE- version on a partition.) It was my first 'brand' some ten years back. It has had its ups and downs, but is very good now. Let me say: I keep playing around and can do my work this way as long as they let us. And it is the only more of less 'safe' way to go on computers I think.

Read how to make LL secure. See what else Linux Lite can do. I think X kill is cool

distrowatch. LL wasn't my first choice. LM (linux mint) XFCE was, but the wifi didn't work. Same with Fedora XFCE. A few distros were dated. I went down the list in distrowatch and landed on LL. Surprised it was so low.

I was using Kubuntu on a desktop as my first Linux OS. After a couple months I decided my 7 year old laptop needed to be switched from Windows to Linux. KDE was too heavy and tried Ubuntu but didn't like Unity. Searched Distrowatch for Debian/Ubuntu based distros and found LL among a few others. Played with all of them for a few weeks and found LL to be a great OS for this particular laptop. All the hardware worked and it was fast like when I first bought it. I've been using LL to convert friends and family to Linux ever since.

I had Ubuntu 12.04 LTS but I changed to Linux Lite 1.0.8 after finding it at DistroWatch. I wanted an Ubuntu-based distro for simplicity but with a lightweight window manager. I recently installed Linux Lite 2.0 because of a bug I suppose, I encountered when tried to login. It was keeping me at the login screen, something like a loop, even if the password was correct.
I found a solution for that: I changed the login manager from LightDM to GDM
Keep up the good work! P.S.: Are there any Linux Lite specific repositories? I think I read something at the manual but I'm not sure.

Hi Sonic
The GDM information looks good, why not move it to a more appropriate section so it won't get overlooked? |
