#1
running LL 3.0 updated today [9/25/16] changed monitor from acer al216w[16:10 1440x900] to acer H233H [16:9} and everything i see is "smeared to the right. like ghost tails. monitor is fine with a windows machine. i never had to install any drivers for the other monitor.. and its still works fine. resolution is 1920x1080 vid card is a gtx960 [if i remember.. its old]  using nvidia drivers for the card. .. so i am stumped. any suggestions are appreciated.. thanks..

Something to quickly check...

Click Menu, type App and select "Appearance" from the list

Click on the "Fonts" tab, check if Rendering "Enable Anti-Aliasing" is ticked[X], Hinting is "Medium" and Sub-Pixel order is "RGB"

tested. not software, its the GF7950gt  i will ask: does ANYONE have ati legaCy drivers for HD4850 card? i refuse to throw away a good card because AMD doesnt see fit to, at the very least, supply a stable driver. this computer is a backup, so i'm not investing more $. thanks..

So is the card that you see the smears with, a gtx960 as stated in your first post or a GF7950gt as stated in your 2nd? And now there's a ATI card in the mix. I'm a little confused. Moved to Hardware > Video Cards.

sorry for the confusion. i was wrong initially on the card.. i have 2 ati hd4850's  and in VGA with no acceleration, of course, there is NO smearing. the gf7650gt does smear and in a live cd , mint/ lite, smears as well, so i call it a card issue on the larger monitor, thats why i would like to find drivers to use the ati card. thanks,,

The HD4850 driver already has 3D acceleration support in LL 3.0, nothing to do. http://manpages.ubuntu.com/manpages/xeni...eon.4.html

interesting.. i didnt see any drivers listed in the updates.. good to know.a related issue; all the graphics card issues are to be able to run Second Life. i have extracted the program files and the instructions are to run the " firestorm" script. i have used the firestorm viewer on other machine but on this installation i have no ":run" , or "execute" options to start the viewer.
i appreciate the help, thanks.. btw.. the smearing actually seems because the monitor doesnt like the VGA input. with DVI input its all good..
