Firefox in 3.8

Oh, it's 203 alright:

-Version-
Kernel : Linux 4.4.0-203-generic (i686)
Compiled : #235-Ubuntu SMP Tue Feb 2 02:51:00 UTC 2021
C Library : Unknown
Default C Compiler : GNU C Compiler version 5.4.0 20160609 (Ubuntu 5.4.0-6ubuntu1~16.04.12)
Distribution : Linux Lite 3.8

I may update the P4 box someday, but so long as firefox works on the netbook that's all I use it for anyways.

I installed kernel 4.4.0.203 on my Acer Aspire One, four packages using Install Updates (LL is the only OS on that little machine). Then I cleaned up using Lite Tweaks, which I think is an excellent application. Then I tested firing up my other essential applications: Install/Remove Software, Firefox, Chromium, Backups, Systemback and Calibre. No errors observed, so I will stay on this latest kernel until proven otherwise. But lessons learned:
  • If you see linux-generic packages in Install Updates, get out and install other packages using Install/Remove Software. Install the kernel on its own.
  • Make Restore Points and ISO images before updates. I back up ISO images on an external hard drive.
Any other hints? I am sorry to see support go for 32 bits. My 320Gb of disk space are not ready for recycling.

Weird...

I updated today from 4.4.0-201 to -204 and when I rebooted it was still operating on -201. I had to go into the Grub Loader Menu and select Advanced Options and manually change it to -204.
We only get one shot at this thing called life, let's make the best of it.

I think that would be expected behaviour if you had used the grub loader earlier to manually select version 4.4.0-201 to back out the problem caused by the 202 kernel.  Grub remembers any manual selection and uses it on subsequent boots until you change your preference.
