Linux Lite 2.0 Final Released
#31
(06-17-2014, 07:43 PM)Coastie link Wrote: Searched forum but could not find answers to my questions. Sorry if I missed them.

1. Is the Lite Software Center still available or do you just use Synaptic to get the Ubuntu Software Center and/or Lubuntu Software Center?

2. Is there an update available notifier now or do you still just check yourself periodically?

1. The Lite Software Center was dropped due to over commitment and under resourced (manpower)
2. The update notifier is still in development, that particular dev is very busy at the moment. So updates are still done via Menu, Install Updates but you can set up automatic updating quite easily if you want - sudo apt-get install unattended-upgrades && sudo dpkg-reconfigure unattended-upgrades

Cheers.

1. No problem to install and use the Ubuntu or Lubuntu Software Center via Synaptic.

2. Does " sudo apt-get install unattended-upgrades && sudo dpkg-reconfigure unattended-upgrades " give a gui notifier or just do updates in background or something else?

1. I haven't tried, someone else may know.
2. Updates in the background.

Thanks, Valtam. I have installed both software centers via Synaptic before so should still work on 2.0.

Anything is possible. I do mine manually so to keep a eye on things.

Modified by Rok: reason. bad command advice.

Don't do dist-upgrade on LL. This has been discussed many times, even if it has worked for you, we warn against it.

Noted. I will refrain from showing that again. I will edit my post also.
