The suggestion to use 6.6 was largely based on the age of the machine and the fact that we have reports of similar hardware running on obselete versions of Linux Lite. Linux 5.x is out of support so can't be recommended.
Can you confirm that the display is stable and fully functional when you boot from the live media (iso) to test the distribution ? If the display is not fully functional and stable when booting from the iso, please let us know.
If it is stable, please boot from the 7.6 iso, open a terminal (by pressing Ctrl, Alt and T together) and run these commands.
If the installed version of 7.6 allows, please boot and repeat the three commands
Post the results back making it clear which results are from the live (iso) boot and which are from the installed boot.
