Once you get used to it you will find it more secure and more reliable. If your computers are in the same office, you can use normal wifi with public IPs, or private adhoc wifi, or ethernet connections. Doesn't matter which. Definitely worth learning how. From LL you will be able to connect with Thunar, or a nice client like Remmina, or the secure terminal. You can also set up to connect from outside your local network.
