Hope it's an easy fix for you.
Just out of curiosity, have you tried Ubuntu 18.04 or Linux Mint 19 on this conputer? (all same base).
Or it could be a kernel thingy... or something related to a sheep and an iridium cube. You just don't know sometimes (insert Twilight Zone music).
