They look pretty and clean. I like them. I think it is a pretty good move to adapt material styled theme for icons, keeping in view the users transitioning from Windows to LL, as they are pretty much used to see light and clean icons. Also, in my opinion, material style icons give LL a cozy and comfortable feel. Adapting material styled icons may also give new users a home like feel as people are usually pretty much used to seeing them on their smartphones. No offence to Faenza lovers, but I would really love to see this icon theme in LL.
I would also like to give a little suggestion. Maybe 9-dot-square-icon might look more meaningful and fit better in place of the xfce icon for xfce-menu. That way, even the text "menu" may be omitted, to give desktop a consistent and familiar look.
