Thanks for the reply firenice03.
Although a bit time consuming (make a change>reboot test>make a change>...), the process was a very easy.
I had to remove everything back to 4.4.0-62 (4.4.0-65 generic etc and 4.4.0-64),
4.4.0-65 appeared on the list once I removed 4.4.0-64.
I have a working system again.
