Just to add to Wirezfree.... Microsoft no longer supports XP - So no patches.. AV software is migrating away...
A VM is like any other physical PC, on the internet the same rules apply... a Windows VM on LX or OSX is just as susceptible to a virus or the alike as any Windows systems.. Being out of service increases.. If its on a segregated network with no access to the internet less risk...
How much risk you're willing to accept, is up to you...
