Hey Jerry.

Ok So I just did the upgrade from 2.0 to 2.8 on my Laptop. Acer Aspire 3000 w/AMD Mobile Sempron 3100 Processor.
I must say that it was the easiest upgrade for an Operating System I have EVER done. I was very very pleasantly surprised.
I have done a lot of upgrading (at least in the recent 5 years or more that I have been using Linux, and 15+ years using windows including Win 3.0) and this one is the best one by far I have ever done.

Congratulations on a very well done OS, Linux Lite should be giving Windows a run for the fair share of users. Many many thanks to you and the Team.

@ohjrson thanks. Before we build an app, we think for a long time before the first line is ever coded, "how can we make this light, efficient and fast." This will get even better with time. We are Borg.

Then in August 2016 you can upgrade to the Xenial HWE and get continued support for the lifespan of the LTS Smile

:-\ I am confused as usual. I though once you completed upgrading the 2 series which ends at 2.8, you had to reinstall to move to 3.0. Are you saying you can upgrade to 3.0 from 2.8 or is there a way to just upgrade the kernel?

I can reinstall but it takes time to install extra programs, themes, icons, desktop, etc.

To Coastie,

You definitely cannot do an in place upgrade from LL2.8 to LL3.0.  A reinstall will be in order then.

You will need to upgrade to the HWE kernel available in Aug 2016.  Whether that will come via Install Updates for you or whether you'll have to manually update it via Install/Remove Software, I do not know.

For your concern of reinstalling programs, you might want to investigate the program called Aptik.  It may help some in that regard.  It can save settings, themes, programs list, PPAs, etc.  Of course going to a different Ubuntu LTS base may cause some of the PPAs not to work.  But I imagine the programs as part of the repository should work, and that can save you some time with your reinstall.  That's what I'm planning to do.

Here's to Ubuntu one day having a rolling release.

Thanks, torreydale. I guess I will just do a clean install too.

What would be helpful would be a terminal command or program that would list all my programs that I could print. I could check to see what is already installed in 3.0 and what I would need to install. I have an old list that I haven't updated recently. I could keep opening the menu to all then add to compare to list but of course the menu would keep closing. There should be an easier way.
