Humanity and Oxygen themes result in missing icons
#1
When I change icons from Faenza to Humanity or Humanity-Dark, there is no icon for:
Mouse and Touchpad.

When I select Oxygen, the missing icons include:
CD/DVD Burner
Create System Report
Disable Auto Login
Help Manual
Install Drivers
Install Updates
Lock Screen
Run Program
Steam Driver Information

I'd like to clarifiy here, missing in what way. Not all icon themes theme every icon. Can you provide a screenshots if it's showing an error?
The Truth is out there.
Be sure to check the Manual out and always report Bugs or feature requests.

It's not showing an error.  If you just select Humanity or Humanity-Dark, for example, and go to Menu->Settings->Mouse and Touchpad, the text will be there, but the icon won't.  Mouse and Touchpad will also be missing if you go to the Settings Manager.

The same idea goes for Oxygen and the other icons.  If you select Oxygen as the Icons theme and go to Menu->All, when you scroll down the list in that All category, you'll see the missing icons that I listed.

Faenza is one of the most comprehensive icon sets available.

That's just one of the reasons why it appears so complete and was originally chosen for LL. When you use any other icon set, you run the risk of having missing icons. If you are adamant about sticking to your newly chosen icon set, you can use Menu, Settings, Main Menu to fill in the missing icons. Whatever you do, don't click on restore System Configuration on the Main Menu application.

Jerry, I have tried to do as you suggest, but some of my icon choices just don't seem to 'stick'. Perhaps it has something to do with the extensive mods to XFCE that make LL what it is. To me, that's not a big issue.

I have reached the conclusion that I'm going to have to, more or less, 'piece together' my own set of icons to get exactly the look I want. I guess I'll use Faenza as a base to work from, since it IS so complete.

On my favorite icon set (YlngOS), the Outboard system tray icon messes up the panel, and I need it to work because that laptop has a touchscreen. On Faenza, it displays correctly, so you can see where I'm going with this. One thing is certain; I will learn quite a bit about building icon sets as a result.

I'ver also noticed that in the stock LL, there are themes and icon sets in the respective directories that DON'T show up as choices in Appearance. I'm guessing that it may be because they're not  XFCE-compatible?

In the quest to make things in LL as 'goof-proof' as possible, as far as ''don't hit 'Restore System Configuration'" goes, one of the projects to possibly consider to act on in the future is to go into the source code for Alacarte, and to 'grey out' or remove that selection. However, any updates to Alacarte would most likely require the new mods to be re-applied...

Possibly, either way, xfce-look.org should always be your first (and I would recommend only) port of call. XFCE stuff for XFCE system Smile

That's not something we would tackle, it's to much maintenance.

That's an excellent suggestion.

Alacarte isn't updated very frequently - especially the LTS version. Of course, given Murphy's Law, that would change as soon as you started to provide such support...
