Check your keyboard. Make sure caps lock is off, and numbers lock is on when you enter your password.

Just in case, adding my two cents.

When you type yuor password, check that each letter enters a caracter.
Just in case you have a key on the keyboard that doesnt work (broken or some juice was given to the nice keyboard by your 9 yr old without you knowing. Wink )

Addng this since I got this problem with two users in the last two weeks.

Cheers!

I have entered my password more than 20 times my caps lock is not on, and my num lock is on. there is no problems with the keyboard, its a month old keyboard and it works fine. I also dont have any kid in my house.

When i enter the password in the login window the screen flickers and it shows the wallpaper for a second and then it  pops up the login window asking for the password again. I have also tried entering the wrong password in that case it says its an incorrect password and the screen does not flicker and the window does not go away.

when i enter the correct password it does not show me as incorrect password  but it does not let me login as well.

any other suggestion?

Cheers

[member=7483]Kavin[/member] : Are you on a physical machine or in a virtual one?
Also, try and boot the PC while holding shift to get the advanced menu, then choose a previous Kernel version to see if the Kernel and/or video drivers compatibility are the cause.

Cheers!

I am on a desktop. This was a fresh installation on a brand new 1tb hdd. I did change the kernel to a previous version to see if that will make a difference but I'm still stuck on the login page.

Thanks for the quick response appreciate it.

Anything else on the drive? How is it partitioned? Boot from recovery mode and run man fsck. You may have had a r/w mem access error during updates if LL is all that's on the drive.
