Microsoft repo secretly installed on all Raspberry Pi’s Linux OS
#1
Hi everyone! Hope you're ll having a nice life! Smile
Quote:In a recent update, the Raspberry Pi OS installed a Microsoft apt repository on all machines running Raspberry Pi OS without the person’s or admin’s knowledge. Every time a Raspbian device is updated by having this repo, it will ping a Microsoft server.
I don't own a Raspberry, but still...

That was my first thought too. According to some of the comments it's not "as bad as it seems".

I haven't yet tried any Pis but I am strongly opposed to Microsoft products. If this happened to me, I would be one of the ones who would raise some hell and ditch the distro. I left Microsoft products behind some years ago and I have no intention of giving them even a ping from me if I can help it. Plus, doing this is a breech of trust in my opinion.

I didn't delve into the link...
But is the repo mostly for Visual Studio Code ?? aka MS Visual Studio Wink

I would assume for the Rasp-pi having the repo would be the preferable vs. a MS PPA (I giggled as I typed it  :005: - ha ha)...

I'm sure there will more "Cross Over" with MS in the Linux world, the above mentioned... Powershell for Linux, heck Teams, just wait Office365  :007:

The alternatives - aka Open Sourced would still be a way around the MS repo... i.e. Atom in favor of Visual Code....

With the inclusion of MS in Linux or is Linux in MS... Can my next work laptop be Linux  :004:
