Very satisfied with the Linux Lite 3.2 installation process

I have installed Linux Lite 3.2 64-bit from a clean slate on my antiquated laptop (see my stats :-) ). All times are measured from the beginning of the boot from the LL3.2 USB drive.

26:42 - Full base install - installed to HD, first boot completed.

51:17 - Updates and Upgrade completed.

1:28:41 - EVERYTHING I need is installed - QupZilla, Pinta, Restricted Extras, DropBox, DropBox tray icon fix, and all the software, fonts, etc. for full Hebrew functionality in LibreOffice - plus all my desired tweaks (icons, windows, fonts etc.).

I have a work-ready laptop within an hour and a half! With very simple installation. In Windows 7, this process might take over 24 hours, most of which due to the horrible Windows Update system.

Not to mention all the anti-virus, malware software required to semi-protect your information. I say semi, because the bad guys can still get through.

Exactly! LL in my experience is vastly superior to the overpriced, unstable, and unsecured Microsoft products.

Now that I have the widget, I can see system resource usage. LL, even with Chromium and Gmail - one of the most demanding web-pages - rarely goes over 500 MB to 750 MB of memory usage - I think I can use it with full performance on a 1 GB machine! On the other hand, Windows 7 - one of the better Microsoft products - takes at least four times the memory, and even XP has difficulty running on 1 GB.

Usually, in Windows the bottleneck is the memory - in LL the bottleneck is the CPU on really antiquated computers (e.g. my laptop's Intel Atom N455 CPU) as memory usage is far more efficient. On anything with a slightly more modern CPU (e.g. the Intel Atom N280 on my fiancee's laptop), LL flies even on machines where Windows hardly works (e.g. the OEM XP which came on my Fiancee's laptop).

I agree it's fast in use, but i did find the 30-90 minutes to finish the complete install inlucding all updates a little slow for me..
--probably only to do with my internet speed and older CPUs and of course less RAm (2GB)

Nevertheless when it is installed it runs well and fast..

I don't have a really fast Internet connection, but it's not bad, and having tried 2 lightweight distros (linuxlite 3x and Solydxee-32bit (solydxk--unfortunately 32bit on an older machine), and found them both fast with the XFCE desktop
--their (solydxk 64bit) would not run on my Athlon-64, but linuxlite 64bit 3x did and installed just fine..

Like any distro, I have to personalize it, by cleaning (removing) software I cant or don't want to use or be installed
--and despite what Jerry has said about numlock being  ON by default (I assume only to accommodate notebooks and mobile device ??)t, I still don"t like that, even though I can prevent it turning ON

I would actually prefer that my BIOS selections were accepted
