Sometimes my Docky disappears and if I want it back I have to re-start. Can anyone explain why?

You mean panel?  I believe there is setting that the panel disappear unless you move the cursor near where the panel should be.
Can someone else figure out where that setting is - I couldn't find it?  Or am I wrong completely?

Just wondering. Can't you just log out and log back in to fix it?

Might help, might not.

Quote:. Can anyone explain why?

When it disappears. Open a terminal and do a

Code:
sudo dmesg | tail

Maybe it will explain why

or poke around in /var/log.
