No Wi-Fi, getting disconnected after short time
#1
Hello,
I have a laptop with dual boot win10/linuxlite 6.2 in it, it worked well for 4-5months now, but recently i've been experiencing frequent disconnections.
When linuxLite launches, i tap my password and i get on the desktop then the network connection appears where i must connect, if i click on the connect button it loops for a bit and then the connection window re-appears once more and it's like this forever. The only yhing that can get my wifi to work is by disabling and re-enabling my network and wifi, then i get to connect to my wifi but it only lasts for 15 seconds until the connection windows appears once more and i have no connection, and this scenario loops forever.

My Wi-Fi works well on win10 so it's not a hardware issue. Also i didn't change anything in the connection/network settings, it just stopped working out of nowhere.

Also what's more surprising is that i can connect to my Wi-Fi  if a share my Wi-Fi connection via my android phone, but it doesn't work if i connect directly to my wifi via my laptop...

Is there a way to reinitialise my network settings or maybe this is due to some recent update ?

I've experienced this in the past when selecting the restart option rather than logging out, then shutting down, and then booting up the computer. I expect it is a kernel issue, and maybe a permissions reset issue, but not necessarily repairable. I think it's an unsolvable problem probably related to XFCE, or network manger, and some hardware and buggy BIOS implementations. Next time you get the connection loop try the three steps of logging out then shutting down completely and then boot the computer. So far I have found no other solution to it.

Hello,
I have researched the problem and it may be a kernel issue. People are having the same, problem with the 5.15 kernel and apparently switching to 5.17 or 5.19 solved the problem.
I tried to switch to the 5.17 kernel version via the linux lite kernel installer tool but then i couldn't list connections at all and many functionalities disappeared on my system.
Now i'm back on my "5.15.0-71-generic" kernel and the network is fine for now but i don't know if it's gonna last.
Do you know if switching to 5.19 is safe via the Lite tool ?

I'd stick to 5.15.0-71 if it is working. Unless there is definitive evidence of a 5.15.0 kernel related problem, I wouldn't consider switching revisions.

There have been a couple of kernel patches recently (-70 and -71), so you could consider dropping back to patch -69 if you still have it handy, though the fact that it is currently working on -71 suggests that something else might be involved.

I've only once had an issue with a kernel patch and had to revert to an earlier patch.  The next patch was good.

I still have the problem on the 5.15.0-71 kernel version, i'm using my phone as a bridge to access my wifi connection on my laptop.
Do you know how to safely switch kernel versions ? tried to do it via the linuxlite tool but it didn't work and i ended up with an unusable system

I'm not aware of a guaranteed safe way to switch kernels.
