LL-3.4 & Development Repository

I recently discovered that LL-3.4/64 makes use of the xenial-proposed repository and wondering if this is intentional?


I ask because LL-3.2/64 doesn't use the proposed repository (by default) and not even after an upgrade. While there's nothing wrong with this, two "identical" LL-3.4 machines will end up using slightly different files depending on how the OS was installed. For example, my "native" LL-3.4 machine uses kernel linux-image-4.4.0-87-generic (from proposed repository) while my LL-3.4 (via upgrade) uses kernel linux-image-4.4.0-83-generic. Again, nothing wrong with this, just something to take into consideration when troubleshooting multiple computers on LL or troubleshoot with multiple people who have LL installed.


For a listing of files from the proposed repository go to Synaptic (start > all > install/remove programs) and in Synaptic click on Origin (lower left corner).

Yes, 3.4 has a more complete sources list than 3.2 The Upgrade script did not add this from 3.2 - 3.4 because it would mess with peoples existing sources list.

On LL 3.2 64bit , I have noticed quite a few updates have said xenial-proposed on them, when reading the log from Install Updates gui after they complete. I am not sure if this is the same thing being discussed.
I am using the 4.9 kernel.
