Linux Lite 3.2 32bit on a Netbook
#1
I have an older HP computer that is a backup to my good HP. I installed Linux Lite 3.2 32bit on the backup & thought after, why not? I made a systemback Live & installed the OS on my dust collecting netbook. The netbook is an Acer Aspire One D255E Intel Atom N455 1.66 GHz. with 1 GB memory. Upon installing I added the browser Pale Moon, Audacious music player & Aisleriot for a few card games. I completely removed Firefox & Thunderbird mail (don't use it). In startup & session I stopped Bluetooth, login sound, Print queue, & Systemback scheduler. According to the Widget, here's what happened:
Just turned on, doing nothing
CPU                    2%
Total Memory  989 mb
Memory Used  221 mb.

Playing some MP3's using Audacious
CPU                    10%
Total Memory  989 mb
Memory Used  253 mb.

Playing music & have Pale Moon browser open, but not doing anything
CPU                    11%
Total Memory  989 mb
Memory Used  425 mb.

Of course, as soon as you open something the CPU usage spikes, but then it settles down. A Netbook is a low end computer but I found that I could actually use it. I just wanted to pass on the information to anyone who is a netbook user, or who has one lying around not being used, as I did. Plan on using it when I travel to play music, check email, play a few card games. Very happy with the results. Maybe it is just my imagination but this version of Linux Lite (3.2) seems to be lighter on resources. I thought so when I was testing the Beta.

Thanks Ottawagrant, this is very helpful and a good case to show that LL can run on low end Netbooks, folks just have to be realistic and sensible about their software choices. Well done Smile
