How exactly did you open the proc directory?
try open a terminal and type: ls /proc the proc directory holds the running processes of the system like those you see in the top program or conky, they change frequently I would not recommend messing around with it but perhaps you are more skilled than I this has been a complaint of other OS users often just looking around. on some computers attempts to open the proc directory with the file manager causes the system to freeze or crash and a hard shutdown via the power button is required. I do not know how or why you opened proc so I am just passing on what I have read perhaps you can provide further information
