Running warpd (keyboard based pointer control) crashes GUI - hckr1123 - 03-09-2024

Hi everyone,

I am new to this forum, so please guide me if I miss something that I should be following so that I can make the necessary corrections.

I am trying to run warpd (a keyboard based pointer control application): https://github.com/rvaiya/warpd
There are no issues installing it, after installing it, when I run it the GUI (X server?) hangs up.
(cursor moves but cannot click anything or interact with anything and nothing responds to any key press)

To recover from this, I am having to access a tty terminal (using Ctrl+Alt+F4) and then kill 'warpd' manually. After killing the process, the GUI recovers back to normal from the hung up state without having to restart the system.

I note that this only happens with LinuxLite and I do not face this on Windows, Ubuntu, or Arch. I am not sure what in LinuxLite might be interfering with the working of this application. I felt someone knowledgeable here in the forum could help me out.

Anyone have a hunch what in LinuxLite could be causing this?

Possible that warpd doesn't work well with the desktop environment XFCE which Linux Lite uses.

It has been reported on the warpd developers page.

The warpd developer response to this similar report/issue may be significant.

I guess then the option available to me is to wait till the developer moves all `warpd` functionality to `keyd` like he mentions in the GitHub issue you shared. Then maybe I could move to `keyd` instead of `warpd`.

Thank you for your time on pointing this out!

You can operate the mouse with the keypad without any additional apps.
It's a bit rudimentary and takes a bit of getting used to, but it may do what you are wanting

Click 'Menu' and begin typing 'accessibilty' into the search box
When you see 'Accessibilty' as a choice, click on it.
Select the 'Mouse' tab and put a check in the 'Use mouse emulation' box.

Ensure 'Numlock' is off.

The pointer can be moved using the numberpad
1,2,3,4,6,7,8,9 (directional)
and 'clicking' emulated with these
5 single click
+ double click
0 press and hold
. release

/ and - to switch between left and right button emulation when using 5,+,0 or .

I wasn't aware of this functionality. Although not convenient like `warpd`, this could come in quite handy. Thank you for sharing it with me!
