New To Linux Lite - K_Collins - 03-10-2022

Hello all

I'm coming from Windows 7 to Ubuntu to Linux Lite.

Got a few questions...

Are the terminal commands pretty much the same as in Ubuntu?

In Ubuntu, I usually purged bluetooth and snapd.
I then used
Code:
sudo apt-mark hold *snapd
Is it the same here in Linux Lite?

Also, do I have the option to use WineHQ and possibly Ubuntu-Restricted-Extras or is there something else for those purposes here in Linux Lite?

LL is based on Ubuntu, so the commands will be the same...
ALTHOUGH .. Snap is not installed
You can use restricted extras and Wine - Look in "Lite Software" for both...

Thank you.

Coming from Ubuntu and going from "new" to "intermediate"...How "easy" is the learning curve?

Specifically on things such as backups and restoring, basic PC maintenence, user-friendliness, ease of use, etc.

I mean, with a knowledge of Ubuntu, is the learning hard?

LL is very user friendly - built for new comers especially from Windows...
Extremely stable - and of course simple, fast and free Smile

Most everything you could need is outlined in the manual..

These forums are also one of the friendliest  :54:
If you've used Ubuntu, the commands are the same - a lot of things have been simplified.
Look at the "Lite" applications Software for the more popular, Tweaks for system maintenance etc...
Timeshift for backups ...

You'll be right at home in no time  ;D

At UbuntuForums.org, I've experienced a few things.

One of the motto's there is...
"The only dumb question is the one that isn't asked."
But the people there, including the mod's, will completely ignore the question if they feel it is a dumb question.

I'm not talking about a lack of common sense.
I'm talking about If I experience an issue with something on my system that seems very basic, but I'm not able to find a solution.

I have threads, questions, there from like 2 years ago that nobody has replied to at all.

Does that happen here?

Um...ok...

Lesson learned...

asking dumb questions does exist.

and...

people ignoring questions happens all the time everywhere.

Awesome
Can't ask for much more than that.

I can't say I'm gonna stay with LL, but I can say it seems much easier than Ubuntu and Lubuntu.

I was on Lubuntu for about 3 weeks.

If you haven't yet and you have decent specs - you can install virtual box (Lite Software) and install other distro's within to test and keep LL.

Linux is about options - but LL is easy to learn, familiar and very stable.

Welcome while you're here!!

I wouldn't say "decent" spec's.
It's an old low-end Dell from the Windows Vista days...
Yep, it has some issue's.

I would say I'm very lucky it even still works given how much technology has advanced.
