What is going on with Libre Writer? - PinStripe - 06-15-2017 Every time I open a doc in Libre Writer, it takes several minutes to open! This Never used to occur. The blue bar loads at the bottom of the page and shows the progress and some docs can take like 5 minutes to load! I'm running LinuxLite 3.4 with all the current updates and opening .doc files. Is this an issue for Linux Lite only or is this happening across the board? I really want to install a different office suite, but can seem to get one to run on this OS. Maybe LinuxLite could go back to installing Open Office by default? Re: What is going on with Libre Writer? - PinStripe - 06-16-2017 No one knows anything?? Well, I guess it's time for me to move on then. Been having too many issues lately. Re: What is going on with Libre Writer? - torreydale - 06-16-2017 I don't have this issue. Have you tried opening the document using libre office in a live USB session or using Google Docs? Re: What is going on with Libre Writer? - justme2 - 06-17-2017 I'm using version 5.1.6.2 on a 13 year old Medion P4 with only 500MB ram and Writer opens any .doc file I throw at. However, there may be something peculiar with your problematic file - is it a file you could share for others to test? Re: What is going on with Libre Writer? - trinidad - 06-20-2017 Libre Office has many settings that can affect its loading speed depending on the hardware you have. Graphics, Internet, network, sync settings, compatibility with other software, hanging updates, etc. You may want to check what it is you have enabled in writer that is slowing its load time. It has been my personal experience that it is a tick faster in Debian than in Ubuntu based distros, and it handles large documents a little quicker in Debian as well. This is probably because Debian is not cutting edge to the degree Ubuntu is, and there are less peripheral programs tied to it in Debian. I regularly work (nearly every day) with million word documents on my Debian box without any particularly annoying slow downs, but indeed there is a difference on my Linux Lite box when it comes to large copy and paste operations even though my LL box has twice as much RAM. I also use Libre office in Windows 10 with no problems either. It's a good bet some other program is slowing your Libre office load time, and there are many that can cause such a lag. TC |
