LAN on Linux Lite - Dragoljub - 09-05-2016 I would like to ask for a basic instructions how to configure Lan between two Linux Lite machines (latest LL 3 on an old machine and LL 2. on relatively new machine). I simply pluged in network cable, indicators are showing that machines are trying to connect, but they don't connect after a while, ethernet network. Previously, a few months ago, I was reading instructions for setting network share, and I was trying to set a share between Windows and Linux, but this is probably next phase, does this influence on connection maybe? Re: LAN on Linux Lite - torreydale - 09-05-2016 Well there's actually a section on creating network shares in the Help Manual (Menu > Favorites > Help Manual). If you haven't referenced that already, click on the section called Network and then the subsection called Network Shares. Re: LAN on Linux Lite - Wirezfree - 09-05-2016 Also if you are trying to connect PC directly to PC, and NOT via a router, then you will need to use a cable like this "Network Crossover Cable" Re: LAN on Linux Lite - Dragoljub - 09-06-2016 (09-05-2016, 02:31 PM)torreydale link Wrote: Well there's actually a section on creating network shares in the Help Manual (Menu > Favorites > Help Manual). I was already reading Help manual for network shares, when I was trying to set shares between LL and Windows which is installed on VB. But as I could understand, setting of network shares is a second phase, after connection between pc's is already established, or not? And in help manual, accent is on setting shares with Windows, and not between two Linuxes, but it is probably the same thing. I am not using router, I am using regular network cable which could be used for modems. I will try with a different cable. I am not using router. Cable I am using is for connection with internet modem. Re: LAN on Linux Lite - Dragoljub - 09-06-2016 One of the computers is very old, desktop pc. When cable is pluged into old destop pc, regular light can be seen around the area as it should be ![]() new pc, but maybe this is regular with new machines, I didn't try earlier to connect cable internet on new pc, I was using only wireless, so I don't know its regular behaviour. Re: LAN on Linux Lite - Wirezfree - 09-06-2016 Yes, all cables are standard, BUT for PC <<-- >> PC you need a crossover type cable. There is some info in this thread that may help. Again it mentions crossover cable with old PC's Re: LAN on Linux Lite - Dragoljub - 09-06-2016 I tried a diff.cable which is I believe for Pc, but it didn't work. I'll get a new cable. |
