[SOLVED] Lost Thunderbird start up via Whisker menu. - newtusmaximus - 01-07-2015

LL2.0  Catfish and LCleaner upgrade - basic Kernel, Updates run.  Suddenly lost Thunderbird start up when clicking Thunderbird in Whisker menu.  Any ideas please.  TB has been running fine for months.
However on shutting down LL2.0, Thunderbird screen briefly appears during shut off routine?

Hi newtusmaximus,

What is the result if you launch Thunderbird from the application launcher?

Here's how to use the application launcher
1. alt+f2 or menu > all > run program
2. application finder window opens
3. type the word 'thunderbird', no quotes
4. click the launch button

Please post back with the results.

Scott

Thanks Scott(0). Followed procedure as above.  Nothing happens.
Brief view of  open Thunderbird on last stages of shut down procedure .

BTW the whisker menu appears to be working  for launching other programs such as OPERA browser etc.

Was Thunderbird removed somehow by any chances !

Type in thunderbird onto Whisker s Run Program if it s in there or if it has a child process result .

Synaptic shows TB 1.31.3.0 present.  Just to be sure I have reinstalled TB . Menu/all/run program/thunderbird/ Launch still no presence.

Htop will say something. Type in terminal
Code:

Hi Newtusmaximus,

Since reinstalling ThunderBird didn't work, I would try purging it first, with this command:

Code:
sudo apt-get purge thunderbird

And then reinstalling it again with this command:

Code:
sudo apt-get install thunderbird

Caution:
There's a chance here for data to be lost so please consider that before running the purge command above.

I really don't know what could be causing this, but I'm just going to throw out some complete guesses here.

If I understand that quote correctly, T-Bird won't run from the menu but when you shutdown computer its screen briefly appears for an instance during shutdown.  That makes me wonder if it is somehow started in the background and thus won't start again?  I don't know -- just a random thought.  Just for the hell of it, go to Menu -> Settings -> Session and Startup -> Session -> and click "Clear saved sessions".  Then shutdown/reboot computer and try T-Bird again.

I'm not sure what you meant by this.  Are you saying you upgraded to a new kernel?  If so, can you try booting into the prior working kernel and see if T-Bird works again when booted with that?

Purging and Install procedures outlined above do not solve problem. HTOP gives a lot of data - unsure how to copy/upload  this for inspection.

The “cleared saved sessions” route appears to have worked  Smile    Also pleased that data originally on TB (emails etc.)  before the problem have not been lost, even after all the  various options above that were since tried.

Thanks to all,  Will mark as solved.  However not too sure why it occurred in the first place??

BTW  to clarify, LL2.0  32 bit, original kernel (3.13?),  additional software – catfish, cleaner – added, and updates added regularly. Default layout.
