RE: Help me, please! - CDROM and archive canonical - stevef - 08-01-2025 Quote:The second command code produced a Blank pageIt must have produced something. What exactly do you mean by 'produced a Blank page' ? RE: Help me, please! - CDROM and archive canonical - CountFoxx - 08-03-2025 It's either that you have had enough, or you didn't receive my last reply to you yesterday. I did mention that I'm having problems posting my messages. So I contacted the admin: I got the following message when posting - "There has been an error due to your post data being empty." The response I got was: "This could be due to a browser page refresh or direct access to this page. We recommend you press the browser back button and begin again." "That happens quite randomly; we haven't pinpointed it yet. Just Ctrl+C your posts before you submit them, just to be on the safe side." After carrying out the suggestion above, I saw the message had been posted. If it's just that you have given up helping me, let me know, so I can try alternative methods to get this low-end laptop working well. As I mentioned in my last message, I've tried several Linux distros, and the download and update packages were fine without any problems, including Windows 10 64-bit. However, they used too much RAM, causing the laptop to run slowly, sometimes crashing. Linux Lite is the best one I've found for it, but that's giving hell with the package updates. No problems with the third-party wifi driver/software updates, though. RE: Help me, please! - CDROM and archive canonical - stevef - 08-03-2025 Sorry you are getting errors when posting. It sometimes happens to me. I've not given up helping but I don't think I've missed a reply. We still need to see the results of the two commands. The only thing I could read from your posts about the output of the second command is 'The second command code produced a Blank page' which is not possible. You can execute the two commands again. Run this command to get the system to check for possible updates. You will need to enter your password if asked. Code: sudo apt-get update | tee ~/"$(date +"%Y_%m_%d_%T")-apt-get-update.txt" Code: sudo apt-get upgrade | tee ~/"$(date +"%Y_%m_%d_%T")-apt-get-upgrade.txt" After running the commands you should find two new text files in your home folder. The filenames with be prefixed with the date and time that the commands were run. Copy the contents of the files and paste them into the thread. Once we can see what is happening, we can help. Describing LL updates as 'giving hell' is a bit strong. RE: Help me, please! - CDROM and archive canonical - CountFoxx - 08-03-2025 Where you'd said to run the codes again, I responded to that message, and I didn't see anything back from you. Obviously, the system didn't send it. In the message, I explained that there is a second file showing the date on time, but when I opened the file, there was no text in the file, and this is why I said it produced a blank page, but I should have said a blank file, instead. I also sent you what is seen in the properties of that blank file. I also went on and gave you further information about the laptop. I've sent this message via my mobile. Let's see if it will be delivered without any problems. RE: Help me, please! - CDROM and archive canonical - stevef - 08-03-2025 Please just run the commands and paste the results. Thank you RE: Help me, please! - CDROM and archive canonical - CountFoxx - 08-03-2025 Obviously, other problems are going on. Not only that the update package won't install, but also the text file is not being saved. Now, is it the laptop or the Linux Lite distro? I believe it's the distro. Because as I'd mentioned before, I've never had this problem with other Linux distros. As a quick check, I've run the commands on a test system running Linux Lite 7.4 and captured the output below. If the distro is the problem this should reproduce your symptoms..
