Re: shutdown and restart problem - N4RPS - 07-12-2016 Hello! Like PPAs, it's best to only update the BIOS when it's absolutely necessary. If something goes haywire, you can end up with a bricked computer. It was along time ago, but I updated a BIOS for someone once, and it somehow put a password on it. It ended up costing me my Dell laptop, as he was a business customer, and he HAD to have a working laptop PRONTO! Hasn't happened since, but you know what they say: Once bitten... 73 DE N4RPS Rob Re: shutdown and restart problem - TMG1961 - 07-12-2016 (07-12-2016, 01:34 AM)N4RPS link Wrote: Hello! Thanks for the warning. I was aware of the danger of updating the bios. I did have laptop years ago that wasnt that pleased with the bios update and it turned into a expensive doorstop ![]() Re: shutdown and restart problem - Valtam - 07-12-2016 I've never had an issue with BIOS updating. If you know what you're doing and you prepare sensibly, I can't see a problem. Vendors don't write BIOS firmware to intentionally brick peoples laptops. It's not BIOS's that kill people, its people that kill computers (cheeky gun reference) ![]() Re: shutdown and restart problem - TMG1961 - 07-12-2016 At the time i bricked mine i was just starting to know about computers and laptops. After that i havent flashed a bios untill yday. But all went well and now on to the search for a place to buy memory. Going for a shop in neighborhood, just in case it the laptop doesnt accept the memory. Easier to drive to the shop then to start a mail conversation |
