In the present case, the backlight problem was not due to a misconfigured keyboard as the 'Asus laptop' option had already been chosen from the keyboard settings, immediately following LL installation.

My Brightness did not work with the FN+F2 & FN+F3 keys.

I found a fix with modifying the grub line to:
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash acpi_backlight=vendor"

Could it be, Wirezfree, that maybe there is more than one way to do this for a given laptop?
Might be interesting to investigate though I don't really have the time or inclination to do this.

Could be useful for others to list their experiences here for different makes of laptop...
