Using a Gateway laptop, Pentium 4 processor, 1G ram with Linux Lite 1.0.8 installed. I used the Menu-Install Updates and that worked fine. Now when I'm in the terminal it doesn't take my password even though it is the correct one. Its states: "Sorry, try again" and after 3 times it prompts me for a new command. Can't figure out what to do here. Maybe change my password but how do I do that without reloading Linux Lite? I'm also trying to fix the numlock being on by default on start up. I went into the bios on reboot and there aren't any options for changing any numlock. I have to use the Fn+F9(Pad Lock) keys to toggle it off...no numlock key on keyboard. Any help would be appreciated. NEWBIE to Linux!!
Tks

Cannot mount drives and partitions--Solved |

A little background. I decided to replace Windows XP with Linux Lite. I researched it and decided that Linux Lite was a good, free OS. My comp is a ThinkPad R61 with 1.99 GB of RAM, an Intel 2 Duo Core. I recently replaced the hard drive with a SATA 7200, 500 GB. I chose to replace Windows instead of doing a dual install. The Linux Lite install went as described in the online manual, but I cannot mount the drives and the partitions. When I follow the instructions as described in the online manual, the end result is this message:
Failed to mount '/dev/sda5': Invalid argument
The device '/dev/sda5' doesn't seem to have a valid NTFS.
Maybe the wrong device is used? Or the whole disk instead of a
partition (e.g. /dev/sda, not /dev/sda1)? Or the other way around?
Can anyone help with this? I'm new to Linux but I'm not ready to give up. I'm pretty sure that this is causing my laptop to improperly start up. The only way I can get going is to start up in safemode, otherwise it doesn't boot.
Any help is welcome. I'm not techy and even though I have gotten this far, I will probably need things spelled out for me. Thanks in advance.

A couple of problems |

Hi! Don't want to be a pain, but I have a couple of questions. I first installed Lite on a Toshiba notebook and had issues I could not fix. It turned out that the notebook had "issues" and was sent to notebook heaven. My grandson gave me his old Dell notebook, a Dell D630 with a 2.2 GHz. Intel core2duo with 4 GB of ram. For some reason I cannot get the wireless to work, the notebook will work with a cable plugged in but I cannot seem to get or find the software to get the wireless to work. The notebook also has a Quattro 135m graphics card in it and I cannot find the software for it either. It's driving my 70 year old mind to a frazzle trying to fix these. I am an absolute beginner to Linux and in no way a computer guru. Any body have any idea what I might need to do?

FN Function Key Issues |

I am using a Gateway M305CRV laptop and running Lite 1.0.8. I do not have a numlock key on my keyboard but I think the numlock is activated. I have to use the FN function key when typing certain letters and numbers otherwise they come out different EG: U=4, I=5, O=6, etc. I've read this is a common problem. The keyboard is now set for default "Cherry Cymotion Master Linus" and I have a 86 key keyboard including the space bar. I see there are a bunch of keyboard layout options in the Settings-Keyboard menu but I don't see mine. Need Help here. NEWBIE to Linux Lite.

I am fairly new to Linux, and more specifically Linux-Lite, so I am not sure if this is the way it's supposed to be. In the systems section off the main menu, there is no install/remove part to the menu. The reason for this inquiry is that I am trying to install programs and are unable to do so.

Question About Snapping Horizontally |

Hello,
I wasn't sure where to post this question, so let me know if this is the wrong place.
My question is this... One thing I miss about Windows xp was the ability to snap(?), or position, open windows horizontally or vertically and give each window equal room. (Don't know if snap is the right word). It was a simple two click process, and no dragging. It did it automatically.
Is there a command I could create that would do this same thing?
