Install Updates script always downloads same version of manual
Posted by: jdt - 04-23-2014, 04:27 PM - Forum: Suggestions and Feedback - Replies (1)

Noticed that when running the script 'Install Updates' it re-downloads the same manual every time. Shouldn't
the script check to verify what version is installed?

  Animated Wallpaper.
Posted by: tnaitok - 04-23-2014, 03:14 PM - Forum: Other - No Replies

I have seen Linux videos where the desktop image was animated.
I have tried;
A-Desk and livewallpaper.
I can't seem to figure out how to do it.
A-desk said right click on desktop and to to script, couldn't find that. So I uninstalled that.
I extracted livewallpaper, now I'm just confused. :-\
Please and thank you.
Cheers.

This isn't really a tutorial, but seemed like the right place to put it.  (Valtam -- go ahead and move post if think it belongs somewhere else.)  Thought might be nice to have a handy list of information sources covering some of the basics in one place.  To Everyone -- feel free to add good sites you've found that might be especially helpful to beginners.

Posted by: dodo - 04-23-2014, 08:51 AM - Forum: Other - Replies (6)

My GRUB is messy, especially after installing PAE kernel, now i have to go to "Previous Versions" submenu and boot LL from there.
Is there any way to remove all these Memtests, Recovery Modes and such to keep it nice and clean.
Since i have XP Dual boot, i would like my GRUB to look like this:

Linux Lite
Windows XP

pls point me in right direction  Smile

Setting right resolution and refresh rate
Posted by: dodo - 04-23-2014, 08:37 AM - Forum: Video Cards - Replies (9)

Hi,
After installation and update of LL, i can't find native resolution of my monitor in Settings->Display.
My monitor's native resolution is 1360x760-75 Hz
in Settings->Display there is a lot of resolutions on list but not my native.
Currently it is set to 1366x768-59.8 Hz and right border of screen is cut off few pixels.
Driver is probably installed correctly since i can play 720p videos in .mp4 and .mkv formats fullscreen
Is there any way to set res. and refresh rate manually?

The printer is still detected when i plug it into my xp computer so its not the cord or the printer.

  Hello! Nice to meet you!
Posted by: Shadow - 04-22-2014, 09:24 PM - Forum: Introductions - Replies (8)

Hello fellow users. My first time here at the forums. My name is Shadow. We installed Linux Lite to our main PC(Well I did actually lol) as we don't have the money to upgrade to Windows 7 or 8 or even buy a new PC altogether. Linux seemed to be the only option for us as it's free to download and install sooo, we went with Linux Lite since it's meant to be good with older hardware so far am impressed by it's speedy performance. We've just moved from Windows XP to Linux Lite as it was the only distro we could find that would run on our old PC. It will be our first year with Linux. I do have a question though hope this isn't too much trouble to answer.

Okay so we have one main PC with 3 user accounts. One admin(me) and two normal accounts, the problem is when the other two normal accounts wants to shutdown the pc after use the system keeps asking for my admin password which starting to get annoying for the other two users. How can I make the computer shutdown without the need of my admin password? The version of Linux Lite where using is 1.0.8 32bit on a Dell machine.

Anyone reply thanks for the help. Oh and great OS keep up the good work!

Shadow.

  Hi there!

Hi, i am new to Linux and just installed LL this morning.
I have 12 years old Pentium 4 (2.4 GHz) that still works like charm (i open it and clean once a year). Good old machine. I know it will run for many years more  Big Grin
All those years it ran XP.
My sister uses it mostly for social networking and watching clips on YT, and my mum sometimes play solitaire on it.
I use it for extra storage since it has 2 hard discs so i can free some space on my lap. with Win. 7
LL has everything, i like it already and i hope i will learn more about it.

(Solved) No Sound on New Install
Posted by: frogprince - 04-21-2014, 07:46 PM - Forum: Installing Linux Lite - No Replies

Okay, I've worked with sound for quite a while. I can show output activity on both Clementine and VLC, but nothing's coming out of the mobo sound port. I've checked the wiring, and that's ok. I've checked all the selections (volume, output devices, configuration, PulseAudio Volume Control, Audio Mixer, the stereo receiver it's plugged into) and all looks ok, but theres..no..sound. Sysinfo file is attached. Any suggestions are welcome, thanks.

- Turned out to be a receiver, rather than computer problem. Thanks.

Ubuntu 14.04 LTS (Trusty Tahr) Officially Released
Posted by: N4RPS - 04-21-2014, 07:22 AM - Forum: Off Topic - Replies (4)

Hello, All!

Well, on Thursday, April 17th, Ubuntu 14.04 Trusty Tahr was formally released by Canonical, the people behind the Ubuntu family of Linux distributions. In addition to a new Ubuntu, a new Kubuntu (KDE), Lubuntu (LXDE), and Xubuntu (XFCE) were all released. For the first time, ALL are LTS releases. This means 5-year support for all - in other words, at least through April 2019.

With this latest Ubuntu version being released, it also means that LL 2.0 should also be released within a few months. One need not upgrade LL just because a new version comes out; a lot of people still use 1.0.6 despite 1.0.8 being available, and the current version of LL will continue to be supported for the next three years. Besides, until an upgrade path is developed (which generally makes a mess of things anyway), a 'clean install' is needed to install newer versions - IOW, a LOT of work reinstalling everything - ESPECIALLY if you've REALLY 'tricked things out'!

I've been busy with other matters lately. Therefore, I've downloaded the ISOs of interest to me, but haven't used any of them yet. If any of YOU *HAVE*, what do YOU think about them???

Rob
