Home Directory - First Letter Uppercase
Posted by: Scott(0) - 05-27-2014, 02:10 PM - Forum: On Topic - Replies (3)

Can $HOME be configured so the first letter is uppercase?

Thunar currently displays my home directory as:
scott - File Manager

I'm trying to configure things so Thunar displays my home directory as:
Scott - File Manager

The change is making the first letter in $HOME uppercase.

I've looked at file $HOME/.config/user-dirs.dirs but it's my understanding this only changes the folders *within* $HOME not $HOME itself.

  Strange video card images.
Posted by: jasonjack89 - 05-24-2014, 07:20 AM - Forum: Video Cards - Replies (1)

Alright, I have an Asus G50VX with an nvidia 260m Which I believe is bad. Linux Lite 1.0.6 installs and runs fine. 1.0.8 Displays nothing but flashing white 2s on a grey background. Linux mint displays horizontal white and black stripes. Linux Ubuntu 14.04 displays zig zag blank and white stripes. This all happens whilst attempting to run off the DVD. I am curious if anyone would know why the different versions of Linux display different garbled images. I would also like to know if anyone might know why Linux Lite 1.0.6 works without any issues visual or otherwise. I am a very experienced computer tech and have worked with many different operating systems. This just has me baffled.

  Pipelight in Linux Lite 2.0
Posted by: Valtam - 05-23-2014, 02:56 PM - Forum: Suggestions and Feedback - Replies (8)

I'm thinking of adding the ability to install this in 2.0 but I am unsure of it's 'popularity' and use out in the wild.
Is this something that users really need? I'm loathed to include MS technologies, but the community may demand this as a necessary.
What do you guys think? How often do windows folk use silverlight in their daily computing?

You can test it by using the following:

Code:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:pipelight/stable
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install pipelight
sudo pipelight-plugin --update

sudo pipelight-plugin --enable silverlight

  Bluetooth Connection Tool suggestion
Posted by: Colin23erk - 05-23-2014, 01:28 PM - Forum: Suggestions and Feedback - Replies (4)

Hi

I have been trying to connect a Bluetooth Headset to my laptop

The headset connects to the adapter OK
The adapter reports that it connects to the Headset Service OK
But no sound happens

I tried the Lite 2 Beta but still the same

I thought the volume control was much simpler and the option to control the sound on the speakers or Plug-in Headset a step forward
.
I was hoping to see an option for Bluetooth Speakers / Headset -- is this a possibility

I understand that connectivity problems between devices can be caused by them pointing to other locations rather the same location or to each other. Is it possible to have a tool that would help bring the together ( a dating service so to speak LOL ) and also generally solve bluetooth setup problems .
At the moment I find Bluetooth  bit of a Magical service - Cross my fingers and hold my lucky pen to hope it works

Colin

  New to Linux Lite
Posted by: emusthroat - 05-22-2014, 04:49 PM - Forum: Introductions - Replies (3)

I have an Acer Netbook from 2009 that was made for Windows Vista OEM.
I put Linux Lite 1.8 on it and replaced it with Linux Lite 2.0 beta in an attempt to get Flash to run successfully on YouTube.
Tweaked sound card settings and now all seems to be flawless.
Not my 1st Linux, but by far the best for my needs!

Spreading the word to all my friends!

  Ccleaner or Defraggler or Antivirus
Posted by: emusthroat - 05-22-2014, 04:32 PM - Forum: On Topic - Replies (3)

Does LL 2.0  need a C cleaner or to be defragmented?
Does it need an antivirus?

I was told that NO linux system has a registry for registry errors to occur in.

Is this so?

  Constant time adjustment [Still Happening]
Posted by: ohjrson - 05-22-2014, 01:19 AM - Forum: Other - Replies (21)

So this has been my issue for quite some time. I have not really put it in here because I have been waiting for someone else to maybe have the same problem. Alas no one seems to have this issue. What is happening is that my time is losing time as the computer is on. in one week it will be off by an hour and I have to reboot. Problem is that when I do this it does not always reboot, and I have to do some other things to get it to boot up into ubuntu 12.04 then it goes ahead and finishes its boot up. Aside from that when it does boot up the time is reset. Yes I know that I can do this through the terminal and I have been doing that of late, but it is getting annoying that I constantly have to manually update and reset the time.

My specs are as follows:
-Computer-
Processor : 2x Intel® Pentium® 4 CPU 2.80GHz
Memory : 1802MB (893MB used)
Operating System : Ubuntu 12.04.4 LTS
User Name : (omitted)
Date/Time : Wed 21 May 2014 08:59:47 PM EDT
-Display-
Resolution : 1024x768 pixels
OpenGL Renderer : Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [AMD/ATI] RV530 [Radeon X1600 Pro] (prog-if 00 [VGA controller])
X11 Vendor : The X.Org Foundation
-Multimedia-
Audio Adapter : ICH4 - Intel ICH5
-Input Devices-
Power Button
Power Button
AT Translated Set 2 keyboard
Logitech Trackball
Logitech USB Receiver
Logitech USB Receiver
spca561
-Printers (CUPS)-
Photosmart_C6300
-SCSI Disks-
ATA ST3160827AS
ST350063 0AS

What is the resolution to this problem? I also can't seem to do anything with the programs I downloaded for the ATI video cards, unsure what or why that does not work.
Any help with this will be great!...
Thanks
Ohjrson

How do you permanently tweak MTU settings?
Posted by: Neo - 05-21-2014, 10:08 PM - Forum: Network - Replies (3)

Hi guys,

Complete noob here so please bear with me.

I found when I installed Linux Lite 1.0.8 that I could not log in to services such as Facebook, Gmail etc. but could still generally browse the Web fine most of the time.

I Googled this issue and came across an Ubuntu forum which had a solution by pasting this into the Terminal:

Code:
sudo ifconfig eth0 mtu 1360

Whilst it resolved the issue, I still have to type it in every time I reboot in order to log in anywhere.

I have searched how to change the MTU settings permanently and came across a general Linux solution but I cannot seem to pull up the file "/etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0" on Linux Lite.

Any help on how to do this would be much appreciated.

(I'm not even sure what most of the code means or what an MTU really is or why I need to change it - I just know I need to change it! ;D)
