The next release, the distro had moved stuff into it’s own repository and had no PPAs. Very cool! They listened!

Now the latest version of the distro offers Google Chrome as it’s default browser. My reaction: “WHAT!? Google is EVIL! Forget this, I’m outta here!” But Linux Lite is for novice users, most either coming from Windows or altogether new to computing. Chrome is probably a good choice for them, I guess, but - it’s effing EVIL. So the developer offers a way to get Firefox instead, but it installs snapd and comes as a snap package! My reaction: "Nooooo, snapd is EVIL! You should offer a PPA instead!"

I hate it when my hypocrisy shows up so obviously for the whole world to see. Criticism of a free OS coming from a clueless technophobe. So I apologized publicly on the forum, and now here on the blog.

I know I’m not unique or alone in such bad behavior, but maybe my bad example can be helpful to some others who, like me, have been quick to criticize when they really don’t know the work they’re finding fault with. Let’s give developers a break, and make your findings - good and bad - known privately and politely as a tester if you want to help make it better.

Release Announcement

Linux Lite 6.2 RC1 is now available for testing.

This release is mostly comprised of UI adjustments and bug fixes. I really like this release, we have managed to improve upon 6.0 to really give it some polish. There are some details below, but all of the changes will be in the Release Announcement.

Changes:

Lite Upgrade

Many re-writes to this application, just in time for the 6.2 release. A new end dialogue is included and we've integrated the newest, stable LibreOffice into the up-grader.









Updated Icons

The latest Papirus icon set has been included.



Shotcut replaces Openshot in Lite Software

We researched a replacement for Openshot since it has been broken in Jammy for a long time now, we didn't want people to be left without a feature rich, simple to use video editor.










Other Changes:

- Fixed dialogue lengths of many Linux Lite applications
- Fixed hostname bug in Lite Tweaks

- Fixed bug in Lite Sources not populating the codename
- Purging even more logs in Lite Tweaks, freeing up space
- Latest stable versions of Chrome, LibreOffice, Lite applications etc

There seems to be a bit of interest in the new Thunderbird versions 100.x and higher. As such, I'm going to leave a quick how to if you no longer want to wait for the official version from the Ubuntu repositories. Disclaimer: You run this at your own risk, it has not been released through Ubuntu yet and therefore is not supported. If it fubars your system, Google is your friend. Impatience, can backfire.

By the way I do have photos already archived on an external drive that it seems to me referencing. However I do not want to add them into my Lite photo album.

That is strange because i installed development version on Linux Lite before, and worked ok.

Why the Confederate Space Force Uses Linux

Is there a method of making the Canon TS5150 work with simple scan, or Skanlite? I can get it to scan using the Canon ScangearMP2-3.50, but its quite restrictive. I'm running LinuxLite3.6.

I was hoping someone may know an answer to this.  I have ran LL on a Thinkpad now for around 5 years. I had issues with the previous laptop from water damage, and then purchased the exact same model used, and swapped RAM and the SSD.  All the other programs are running as it should, and if it is updates or software on the SSD it works fine.


When connecting a USB or SD card to the system I cannot mount them.  It states I am not authorized.  I am not a Linux Savvy person, but I am Google Savvy, and so far my Google Fu has not found me the correct answers.  Before nuking the entire image and starting over I thought I would reach out to the forums.
