Hi
Trying to install LL 6.2-64. Tried the standard install which ended in spinning wheel on screen. Tried the compatibility mode and that ended in this getting repeated on screen Confusedystemd[1]:Failed to start journal service.

Am I doing something stupid or missing something?

  Resolving False Password Login failure
Posted by: llite001 - 11-06-2022, 09:50 AM - Forum: Updates - Replies (2)

I have been suffering from a recurring problem with two installs of LLite. I have read through the forum and see many people encountering this, no proper solution has ever been posted from what I can see.
The Password is correct, there is no error (screen error that says password is wrong) but screen simply refreshes and ask for password again. You can type the password a million times or until you turn blue in the face - whichever comes first.
Going into command line mode doesn't help - although you can login through command prompt - running startx gets you in a different UI than the default.
Trying to fix install of update through boot doesn't help - always running latest updates.

My only saviour todate is the quirkiness of this, that I would reboot and sometimes it would work, and sometimes not, then I would nbe lucky by trying one of the other installs or I would give up and go into Bodhi Linux.

I am just wondering why so many have faced this and nobody has taken this seriously enough to fix.
I have not experienced this problem with any other Linux variant, but consistently experience this with Linux Lite.

Looking forward to some constructive ideas - especially those that go beyond the ones posted in the other past threads on topic

  how to install firefox?
Posted by: bookmunchies - 11-05-2022, 02:32 PM - Forum: Installing Software - Replies (6)

I've been trying to install firefox but it's not working, I just switched over from windows and fr why is it so complicated to just download a browser I'm crying. I go to the site and click download but it doesn't do it normally, it downloads a file instead of the little firefox icon, and when I click on it it's just a list of what the file contains. When I ggld it there was a way to do it thru a package manager, so I went ahead and searched what that was and when I found it on the pc  I clicked on the firefox with a little sun next to it and installed that bcs there was a whole bunch of firefox there, it says it's installed but it's nowhere? I really don't know what's happening. Please note that I'm tech stupid so make it really simple. I'd post a screenshot but idk how.

Hostname differs from what is seen by nmap scan of local network
Posted by: gunitinug - 11-05-2022, 12:25 AM - Forum: Installing Linux Lite - Replies (2)

Hello.

If I do

$ hostname
logan-asus

But given my private IP is 192.168.0.102

$ sudo nmap -sn 192.168.0.0/24 | grep 192.168.0.102
Nmap scan report for LINUX (192.168.0.102)

So strangely the hostname set on my linux lite laptop is different from what is seen by nmap (logan-asus vs LINUX).

How to fix this? Thx!

How to set nomodeset in Linux Lite? Plymouth not booting
Posted by: OptiPlex - 11-04-2022, 09:30 AM - Forum: Start up and Shutdown - Replies (3)

Hello Fellow Lite Users,

can you please write me a simple instructions how to permanently set nomodeset in Linux Lite?
Sometimes, when I start the computer I see the black screen. I have auto login enabled + nvidia card.
When I press CTRL + F2 I see: systemd waiting for process Plymouth.
What I do is I shut down the computer by holding the power button and start again until I get into the graphic environment.

UPDATE: adding two screenshots. there is an error message from systemd - problem appears randomly. during power on. nomodeset did not help.

Linux Lite - version 3.8 - latest version of Wine compatible?
Posted by: gotLL - 11-02-2022, 11:49 PM - Forum: Other - Replies (1)

Hello all,
I have Linux lite 3.8 installed on a 32bit laptop.
To my knowledge - version 3.8 of Linux Lite - is the last version created compatible with a 32bit machine.
From what I understand - Linux Lite 3.8 is based on Ubuntu 16.04 xenial
Currently - I have wine version 1.6.2 with this OS.

I inquired at the Wine Forum concerning a later version of Wine that might be compatible.
They pointed me to a Wine repository for Ubuntu 16.04 xenial

But they were uncertain about differences between Linux Lite and Ubuntu 16.04
Is there anywhere I can find out what version of Wine I might be able to upgrade to - and how to best do that?

Sincere Thanks!
