  Slow boot time
Posted by: Chris24 - 12-01-2022, 07:34 AM - Forum: Start up and Shutdown - Replies (3)

Hi All
I just installed Lite a couple of days ago and am very pleased with the OS except for one thing; on my old Acer laptop (Pentium P6200, 3gb RAM, 500GB HD, on which I cleared everything before installation) the machine is taking around 3 minutes to boot. Any suggestions?

Many thanks for any help.

Chris

  Issues with touchpad (ETPS/2 Elantech)
Posted by: sourscreme - 11-29-2022, 11:38 AM - Forum: Installing Software - Replies (1)

Hey im new to linux lite. Yesterday i installed it on my older notebook (Acer Aspire E1-771) because win10 been way to heavy for him.
Im really surprised how useable this notebook got, otherwise it could been went straight to the bin.

Everything went fine, but i noticed my touchpad worked little weird. Even if the touchpad felt really good and responsible, the scroll bar been on 50% of the whole right side of the touchpad.

So i spend some after hours for a solution. I found out the driver my touchpad is using is synaptics, so i watched for some update or other version of it.
Somewhere i found this code

Code:
sudo apt remove xserver-xorg-input-synaptics
Code:
apt install xserver-xorg-input-synaptics

I restarted my notebook and saw the issue was gone, but i got another one. Touchpad now works everywhere but it feels really bad and the cursor is shivering.
At the Mouse and Touchpad Setting i tryed to tweek the Pointer Speed but looks like this setting arent even responding.

In the Mouse and Touchpad Settings its say my Device is ETPS/2 Elantech Touchpad.

Any ideas ?
How to reinstall synaptics ?

  Installing Updates - Genuine ?
Posted by: Daveyboy - 11-29-2022, 08:15 AM - Forum: Updates - Replies (3)

Just noticed "2 Important updates available " when I click on install I see that they are - to "update login" and "update password" - call me paranoid but are these bona fide and genuine updates ? - I cancelled the update until such times as I can establish that these are genuine updates so would appreciate any assistance you can offer

Just preformed a clean install of LL 6.2 and install went without a hitch.

I saved this and restarted my computer and then ran updates and appears to have updated.

My question is everything good to go now or will this be an ongoing issue.

I did look over all of the other update information that is posted however seemed to confuse me.

Thanks.

Installation of LL6.2 goes to GRUB
Posted by: javier_mina - 11-26-2022, 11:05 PM - Forum: Installing Linux Lite - Replies (8)

I have been happily using Linux Lite for a number or years.  When I just tried to upgrade ver 5.8 with 6.2 etched on a USB, my installation started well going through location, network connection and so on but then went black.  When I rebooted, I ended up with this... "GNU GRUB version 2.4 minimal BASH-like line editing is supported.  For the first word, Tab lists possible command completions.  Anywhere else TAB lists possible device or file completions. "  Then I get a grub> command.

It won't reinstall, just goes right back to the message and prompt.

How can I fix this?  Is my Dell laptop bricked?

  ttyS0 permission denied
Posted by: timbuck2 - 11-26-2022, 02:22 PM - Forum: Other - No Replies

I am trying to use the serial port to access a Lantronix mss100 via null modem cable - LL 5.4.

Using gtkterm, when I run the program I get a "permission denied" message.  How do I gain access to the serial port?

*Edit* Solved - I had to add myself as a member of the "dialout" group.  Now it is working.

  integrated/external webcam not working
Posted by: kamui - 11-26-2022, 12:44 PM - Forum: Other - Replies (1)

Hello!

The integrated webcam is not shown at all in skypeforlinux/discord/cheese/chrome. The external webcam is shown, but the content is just black.
I have dual boot with Windows 10. The integrated webcam works there and the external one (Genius Eye 312) started to work after I installed its driver.
My laptop is ACER Nitro 5 AN515-58-789C and I found no keyboard shortcut in the user manual.

The system report: https://www68.zippyshare.com/v/Vf6ljuUW/file.html
I figured that the internal webcam is 0408:4035 Quanta Computer, Inc. ACER HD User Facing in lsusb.

cat /dev/video0 shows No such file or directory

sudo dmesg | grep -ni "uvc|facing":

Code:

The lines with "Failed to query" and "Failed to initialize" are with red.
