hi! im not sure if im posting in the right place , but hoping i am. i know you guys are busy & not trying to waste anyones time . I recently was able to install linux lite on this old dell 11 3120 chromebook . it had reached "end of life " according to google . This is an older chromebook & came out before you could get the google play store on them and before they started including the ability to install linux on chromebooks , so the capabilities were severely limited in using the chromeOS . anyway the laptop itself was still in great shape , so i decided to try linux on it . i bricked it twice , by following other forums & trying the recommended linux operating systems, so by the 2nd time , i had a useless laptop & decided to try linux lite , since this is the one that ive always used & had success with . i apologize if my post is duplicate , ive tried searching , but cant find anything & all other forums related to chromebooks , all seem to still have the chromeOS or the "crostini" terminal , so i want to emphasize that this laptop no longer has any part of chrome OS , its all been wiped . its strictly linux terminal , which is great with me . ive only ran into 1 issue & reaching out because im sure you guys will know the commands to use in the terminal to get sound on this laptop . i even have the speaker icon in the tray , everything works beautifully , except that i have no sound ,ive clicked on the "audio mixer" & tried everything there . i have tried many other versions of linux trying to convert from windows , linuxlite has always been the only one thats ever worked out well . thank you for reading / responding or any help you can send
I am fresh to Linux, installed Linux lite 6.4. The PC connects to the internet over wifi dongle, TP-Link WN-821n v5. During system installation there were no problems. After installation dongle could not connect to WiFi, however it did connect if i unplugged & plugged it back. I had to do that after every reboot. Today after a reboot system claims that there are no network devices. I can see the wifi dongle at USB devices tab in system information. However it does not show up when i run lsusb command. I downloaded official TP-link drivers on other computer and transfer it with USB flash drive and ran make command. It gives me back a freaking syntax error "/bin/sh: 1: Syntax error: "(" unexpected" I download some other drivers for this chipset (rtl8188eu), tried to run make command. Told me off for downloading zip file instead of using git clone. How can I use git clone if i have no internet?!
My PC keeps waking itself up from sleep mode, is there any chance someone can take a look at the log and understand the problem ?

P.s. I think I understand the problem: ACPI: EC: EC started - it is a microprocessor that gets signal from keyboard. Turns out my new low-end wireless keyboard sends a signal or checks connection once in a while and wakes up the PC. I powered it off tonight and there was no more awakening.
I installed a version of linux lite 3.8 and had to deactivate numLock every time.
To solve the problem I used this instruction : sudo apt-get remove --auto-remove numlockx ,and now the system no longer reboots.
I have tried using restore but nothing,
I can see the initial screen with the yellow feather and then nothing.
What can I try to restore without losing the installed software?
My BigMac (no relation to the cheeseburger) boots with the 27" 4000x2000 screen.
At that resolution, a simple one-line message ??? is nothing but a dirty white line.
Followed by; GRUB displays it's horror in a screen about the same size as a playing card.
Completely un-readable jumble of Grub-speak.
When it times-out; we are in the Ubuntu deep space quadrant[size=78%] , with a tiny spinning propeller.[/size]
[size=78%]Then comes the crazy light show while LITE fumbles thru its video parts. My cat runs out of the room.[/size]
[size=78%]Finally, my mal-adjusted Xfce screen appears. ( that is another problem,,, for later.)[/size]
[size=78%]I remember old-school GRUB had video-codes which set the screen-size for DOS, TinyCore, etc.[/size]
[size=78%]Where & how does that work in 2023 ?[/size]
[size=78%]I think my font size...is shrinking...as I type... [/size][size=0.7em]I welcome your response [/size] :wave
I am hoping to setup RAID1 using 2 disks. This is a UEFI computer if that matters.
The exisiting drive "/dev/sda" is partitioned like this:
Code:
Device Boot Start End Sectors Size Id Type
/dev/sda1 * 2048 1050623 1048576 512M b W95 FAT32
/dev/sda2 1052670 976771071 975718402 465.3G 5 Extended
/dev/sda5 1052672 976771071 975718400 465.3G 83 Linux
Should the mirroring be done with "/dev/sda2" or "/dev/sda5"?
Also, since this is my active LL boot drive, can I convert it to RAID1 without having to format it? I have the new "mirror" disk ready to be installed, but don't want to damage my LL boot drive.
